Three things that handcuffed the Cardinals this season

Post by Shady »

1) Inconsistent starting pitching staff (all of them except McGreevy)
2) Arenado (lack of offensive production at his salary)
3) Gorman and Walker ( haven't developed like was hoped for)

1. Cutting Budget by $50m
2. No anchor in the MOTO
3. Overvalued youth.

1. Choosing to delay the entire team’s rebuild for a whole year to allow a farewell tour for John Mozeliak, thereby choosing Mo over the fanbase.

Everything else stems from that.

So the starter that has given up 4 runs or more in 4 of his 8 starts is the only consistent one?

The quest for .500 kept them from clearing out their logjam of positional mediocrity in the offseason and at the deadline. Essentially a wasted season.

But this was the season where the “youth” would be allowed to play, sink or swim. Surely you didn’t expect them to be playoff-competitive. I actually find it remarkable that they’re around a .500 team
