Question about Oli

Terrible leadership, situational awareness, and presence. I have elaborated plenty on these things in the past and honestly don't have the inclination to get back into it.

I was always told that when you walk into a room, you should know who the manager/leader is by their dress, demeanor, and appearance. How they interact and how they carry themselves. Oli does not elevate himself naturally. His elevation is forced, which makes him come across as prickly, insecure, and egotistical.

Don't know how you can say it any better than that.

You look in that dugout and you wouldn't know who the manager is if you didn't know better.

I will add the cavalier attitude about losing. Players in the dugout during the game laughing when the team is getting beat.

You never saw that [shirt] when LaRussa, Pujols or Yadi was here.

I look in the dugout and know who the manager is..

Fellow posters have covered the deficiency Marmot the Pretend MLB Manager exhibits. I would add to see his deficiency in action watch a Brewer game and then watch a Cardinal game. Brewers down by +3 runs late in a game and you know they will make a run to either close the deficit or win. Cardinals down by 2 runs in 3 rd and the team and YOU know they will lose.

Cardinal & Brewer rosters are not really so dissimilar. Not overly talented. But Brewer players know their fundamentals - bunting, base running, throw to the right base, et al. Cardinal players can't bunt, never heard of hit and run, et al. It is supposed to start with manager. Compare Pat Murphy to Marmot and you see WHY Marmot is a pretender.

Would Jay or Descalso been as incompetent manager as Marmot? Seriously doubt it. Marmot is just, yet, another misjudge of talent by MO RAN.

So much nothing in here that actually states how Oli fails. Just once, post an actual continued failure not some generalization of brewers vs Cards.

Not an Olli hater. Via experience he's gotten better. With a team with no superstars and a weak rotation, he is managing a .500 team. There is no bickering in the clubhouse. He's done a credible job with the pen even following trading off the 3 top performers. I'd rather have a more experienced manager and very credible manager, but wouldn't hate Chaim if he kept Olli until the talent improved.

2. Lineup construction. Too often guys have a good game or a string of good games and get benched.

3. Poor leadership in clubhouse. Someone mentioned players laughing in dugout during ugly losses. I noticed it on the Sunday loss in San Diego.

4. Too often the team looks unfocused, low energy, and lackadaisical. That's on the manager.

5. Unwarranted arrogance. The guy gets no respect throughout the league. He has a bad combination of inflated ego with no credentials.

6. Association with Mozeliak. He was Mo's snitch. He was rewarded when Shildt was fired. Marmol and Mozeliak are forever linked.

This has to be a 100% fresh start or BDWJr has failed again.

Rock has it covered! Oli is the living manifestation of all that is wrong with Cardinal Baseball. He is lazy, arrogant and stubborn. Bloom will surely bring in an outside voice to run this team on the field. No more incestuous promotions. Air this place out. I am expecting a league-wide job search for Oli's replacement.

I agree. But, management is seldom to blame for poor team performance. As I suggested, if Bloom wants to hold off trying to foist this team on a highly acclaimed manager until the talent visibly improves, I can live with that. I think we will be better next year, so wouldn't be surprised if the axe falls at some point.

Frankly, if Bloom wants to put some training wheels on Yadi next year I'm OK with that too. I realize Yadi has some experience managing Latin American teams, WBC teams etc. But, nothing like a 162 game season with a problematic 26 man roster.

Bernie has said he asked Oli about the lineups on his KMOX show and Oli claims those are all his doing.

I can see why you would, but, no. If Olli is only a horse holder, I could foresee the scenario when Chaim would find it easier to hand the reigns to a more accomplished manager. The Cubbies did something similar with Rick Renteria who had 97 wins before turning to Maddon in 2016.

I don't believe Mo sets the lineup, order, bullpen moves, etc.

I believe Mo sets the roster, negotiates contracts, etc.

This was evident in the Jordan Walker moves in the 2nd half last year, where Mo brought Walker back up, Oli didn't play Walker, and Mo sent him back down, saying he needed the ABs.
