Ever heard of JJW?

He's the 2Bman in 2026 (if NADO is still here).

Saggesse's also a -1 DRS at 2nd base or the same as N. Gorman, -2 OAA vs Gorman's 0 OAA in 62 fewer innings.

By OAA he's a worst 2nd baseman than Gorman! 8O

Saggese is a back of the bench, SUP (if he's still here),
Wetherholt is undoubtedly a fine MLB prospect. However, he still needs to prove himself at that level. Agree? Ex,Walker's and Gorman's struggles.

No I don't agree.

He proved himself in college where he was the BEST HITTER by many scouts reports his senior year.
Are you familiar with Saggese's resume' as a young professional baseball player?
No, never heard of him

But I know what his major league resume reads:

2 HR
.244 .283 .335 .619

Re: Back of the bench, 25th man on the roster SUP

With NO POSITION HERE

Like so many you tend to overvalue every young Cardinal player.

Wait, Wetherholt has to prove himself but Saggese somehow doesn’t? Saggese needs to hit much better to stick in the MLB let alone start.

Don't be surprised if both Saggese and Wetherholt are regular starting infielders for the Cardinals at some point in the future.

How’s your favorite pitcher, Munoz, doing?

He's still on the team. I saw they may look at him as a starter next spring training.

I liken Saggese to be a similar player to Tommy Edmunds.

Saggese needs to hit the weight room in the off season. He needs to gain 7 to 12 lb, imo. Get some muscle 💪.

2023 is getting to be a long time ago when Saggese was the league MVP at AA.

.306 .374 .530 .903 2023 age 21 (90% AA, 10% AAA)

.253 .313 .438 .752 2024 age 22 (AAA) - below average (.767) for the Memphis team
.204 .250 .306 .556 2024 age 22 (MLB 52 PA)

.317 .402 .445 .847 2025 age 23 (AAA) - above average (.766) for the Memphis team
.260 .296 .346 .643 2025 age 23 (MLB 135 PA)

Saggese has not progressed in the past 2 years (age 22-23) as much as we might have hoped.

2024 was a disappointment but 2025 was better. This another case of STL promoting a player to MLB before they conquered AAA.

I don't know why they think below average AAA players are not going to stink up MLB.

He’s still young and was once a highly touted prospect, so it’s possible.

That's just a product of not enough depth.

Shady wrote: 13 Aug 2025 18:10 pm As an all-around hitter and defensive player. I feel Saggese will eventually hit enough for a 2B. And it's likely his best position defensively. But if Wetherholt is penciled in as the future 2B. Could Saggese give Gorman some serious competition for the 3B job after Arenado moves on?
No

True. But they chose to promote Saggese too early rather than play someone else like Fermin who had already shown he could hit in AAA.

Note: I'm not a Fermin fan because his defense is bad but he could have taken some MLB at bats while Saggese tried to conquer AAA.

They did not mess up Saggese as badly as they did Walker though. They made him learn OF at the MLB level!

Mort Gage wrote: 13 Aug 2025 18:51 pm There is no limit to Saggese's potential. He looks like an every day 2B with .375/.475/.850 potential, as well as multiple Gold Gloves. There will be no MVPs for him, sadly, as Burleson has those awards locked up from '28-'31 as the Cardinals 1B. Burleson will also beat out Saggese and Roby for three World Series MVPs in that same period. We are entering a Golden Age of Cardinal baseball and we have Shady to thank for recognizing talent we could not see.
Shady just came.
