looking at all these awards given out this year....
and you can't help but think "We're really stacked at "LHP"....and very brittle at "RHP"
IL RHP ~ Hence, Roby, Robberse, Bedell (just got off a 4 month stint), Santos, Rincon, Lin (just returned from his 3rd IL stint this season), Brian Holliday. While not hurt, they're pitching hurts the fans ~ Davila, Saladin, Salas.
IL LHP ~ Z. Thompson, Rom, Hjerpe.

Lefty starters always get me to wishing for the next John Tudor. May have more than one candidate.craviduce wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:01 pm looking at all these awards given out this year....

4-5 K/9 rate....that doesn't play 40 years later. The meta has changed. I hope and pray we don't have any Tudors on their way.MIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:06 pmLefty starters always get me to wishing for the next John Tudor. but...I always liked how he could very deep into games. Makes you wonder was it because he wasn't max output every pitch? You don't see guys going 270 innings anymore....max output with every pitch, every inning is the biggest reason why.MIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:06 pmLefty starters always get me to wishing for the next John Tudor. Also makes you wonder....could pure hitters like Carew, Gwynn, Boggs, Clemente....would they be able to succeed in today's Meta? Power Four Seamer, Power Slider, Power Change? I would've loved to see each compete today. Ichiro did....so I'm thinking they'd probably succeed, too.

Re: Minor League Updates (8/12) ~ Cards System
True dat. I admired Tudor because he would come inside with the fast ball, then drop that little sinker over the outside corner and often got the GIDP or a groundout to Ozzie or Pendleton. Different age, but like the hitters you mentioned, some pitchers would be fun to watch compete with the all or nothing free swingers today.craviduce wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:21 pmbut...I always liked how he could very deep into games. Very true. Although that kind of K rate was league average back then. So that’d be like a LHP striking out around 8-9 per 9 now. I’d take that over what we have now. Our rotation is pitiful when it comes to K’s. Mathews, Davis, and Liam Doyle will hopefully change that.craviduce wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:08 pm4-5 K/9 rate....that doesn't play 40 years later. do you really think the per 9 equates to 8-9 per 9 today? Interesting. hmmm. I'd really like to get into the math on that...that would be a fascinating dig...I love sifting through data.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:34 pmVery true. this it the other part of your comment that I wanted to ask you about. Do you think Davis can make it to the rotation? Does the command get consistent enough to maintain a rotation spot?
I love the kid, his stuff is incredible for his stature. I just don't know if he can bring all together and stay on the mound long enough to be effective as a starter...5-7 innings, every singe start....or at least 90-95% of them

So I’d say it’s probably around 8ish.
Re: Minor League Updates (8/12) ~ Cards System
Yea, the walks are definitely a concern. Hopefully he will be able to improve it to get at least around 4. IF he can then he’s got SP potential. While it’s only been 4 starts, he’s at least been at 4.8 BB/9 in A+, much better than the 6+ he was in low-A.craviduce wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 14:10 pm"Davis"Futuregm2 wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:34 pmVery true.
