Sunday night baseball. Gray v imanaga. Finally Ace to Ace. And a night gane for Gray. No heat.

We were 42-36 when we met Cubs first series. We won first two to go 8 over .500. We did not pitch Gray on game four against Cubs. We saved him. Since the we are 17-22 ish.

Had we pitched Gray in that series we may have had different results hence better over all results.

Good game Sunday.
Cards could have signed Imanaga. How different would our rotation look with him. Instead they cheaped out and Chicago signed him. Pretty sad.
Do you have a link for this. I’d love to know if there is one ounce of truth…

Hoyer personally scouted Imanaga during a trip to Japan in September and has kept in touch with his representatives, though the Cubs did not jump in as a top candidate until the late stages of negotiations.

“Every team is different, and it’s a long process,” Imanaga said. The athlete on Thursday through an interpreter. “At one point I mentioned, ‘I hope the Cubs make me an offer.’ I was just kind of kidding because at that time the Cubs were out of the picture.

In other words nothing ties the Cardinals to Imanaga. The Cubbies made contact with Imanaga and at some point he kidded to himself that he wishes they would make him an offer and.... then they made the biggest offer....

Gray is 11-5 now for a .500 team.
Yes his E.R.A is inflated by a handful of horrible games. He has given up 3 runs or less in 16 starts this year.

Yes, part of being an ace is making $25M or more per year . As for ERA, Sonny Gray agrees with you, TopofthePerch . Take outs his 2 or 3 worst games and he likes his ERA much better too . :D

We are no longer in July, so the good Sonny Gray is back. 8)

It’s crazy how he is so terrible in July and then as soon as the month flips he reels off a couple 7 IP 1 ER 7+ K starts in a row against the Dodgers and Cubs.

I think what's interesting is that nearly all of the "stars" who have come over from Japan have landed in LA, Seattle, NY, etc. The midwest is never on the radar. This guy clearly didn't have the same approach and if we had been the team to have a top exec personally scout him and then stay in touch...we could have jumped out in front of the pack early and possibly grabbed him.

But we only seem to look to Japan to find players who have gone there to resurrect floundering MLB careers. There seems to be no appetite to engage with that market in the way Hoyer did.

So anyway it wasn't accurate to say we could have signed him as we will never know. But it does seem like the chances may have been slightly higher than normal if we would have bothered to try.

The point is they could have made a play for him and signed him. Do you admit?

Then they couldn't have signed him
Reading comprehension. It's your friend. They could have made a play for him but didn't even try.

Correct. You can't sign what you don't go after.

You do admit they had the ability to sign him and he was available, right?
