3RW is probably my least favorite position on this roster right now. Get why they did the trade but Bolduc filled this spot nicely to give this team 3 legit lines. Now we have guys who should be 4th liners possible filling it(Bjugstad/Sunny), guys who haven't proven if they are NHL ready(Dvorsky, Alexandrov, Carbonneau) or guys(Tex, Jopesh) who have had the shot to secure it and have failed. I'd frankly prefer to go with youth and live with the inconsistency as it will benefit the team down the road more.

I think we all see what the Blues lost in Bolduc and I can't argue your point about the forward wing position this year.

But the future there looks a lot brighter than the RHD situation so let's hope that trade off is a home run for the Blues.

Agreed. Obviously the forward lines would look better with Bolduc included but swapping him for Mailloux is a longterm bet at a much more premium position. A quality RD is close to the hardest thing to find in the game whereas a left shooting winger is peobably the easiest. Bolduc somewhat increased his value by showing he could play RW as well as LW but it’s still much easier to find a winger than RD. And a lot of our top prospects are wingers. I didn’t like the trade at first but from an asset valuation standpoint and organizational depth standpoint, it made a lot of sense.

And I also agree with your sentiment that having some inconsistency with a talented youth at a forward position can be tolerated if it makes the long term better. Bringing them in one, maybe two at a time...old contracts age out. Good coaching, good veteran leadership mentoring. We're heading in the right direction.

i think this signing is to see if monty can figure something that clicks for him during camp. he's too good for the AHL but has choked at the NHL level. It's just a bummer because it's probably a 4th line only spot or press box guy. Nothing wrong with being an AHL lifer. Those guys make literally the top 2 percent of the US. Not a bad gig, even if it can get frustrating.

Dont count him out he will be in the mix in camp its a tough hill to climb though considering the roster
