When the Cardinals faced him a couple of days ago, Miller couldn't land a breaking pitch or secondary offering.

Like Helsley this year, hitters can just sit on that fastball. Spit on anything else unless he hangs one.

Miller is a couple of ticks faster than Helsley. But professional hitters can still hit a fastball even at 104 mph.

Can he vary shape and speed to throw hitters off? Anyway he's having a good season. So most things are working for him.

Although… was he (or Hudson) really working that hard? I never saw anything about them visiting pitching labs to work on pitch shape / spin / design to try to figure out how to miss bats.

They both looked the part of innings eating mid-back of the rotation starters but never did anything development wise to get there. Some of that is obviously on the organization for being nearly a decade behind the industry in pitching development.
