Some are forgetting one of the most important aspects of catching - calling the pitches. Bill Freehan taught it to Mike Matheny who taught it to Yadier Molina. Pages probably does that well, and that’s why the pitchers like him behind the plate.
It takes studying the other team’s batter’s tendencies on different counts, their weaknesses in certain counts, etc. As well as their positioning in the batter’s box on various counts, seen up close and personal.
And how have those pitchers been doing w/the great pitch caller behind the plate?
Pozo has a lower catcher ERA than Pages.
Oof. Woke him up from his G rated fantasy. He’s gonna be cranky.

Actually, Rock, the crabby and cranky posters on here are the whiners and bashers. But you already know that.

I'd call them the passionate fans, the one's who actually still care.
It's impossible for me to waste my time thinking about what the team should do about catching. We have 10-15 year window going forward where that will never be a problem. Moving Contreras was necessary to keep him in the game. He's done just fine at 1B. Herrera is not a catcher. Pages and Pozo have simply held a spot waiting for Crooks, Bernal and perhaps Rodriguez to take charge.
Lots of places to worry about, catching doesn't seem to be one of them.

Page's shouldn't be considered to be in the Cardinals future. He should have been traded or released and Crooks called up. Cardinals are wasting valuable time not calling up some players or playing young players consistently now and see if the are going to fit in the future instead of wasting time and giving at bats to players that shouldn't have no future with them.

Agree. It's like the posts criticizing Willson. With no outfield, no 3b, top-tier starters and 4 DHs-- this is what you're complaining about?
