While I think the conversation will happen in a more professional, diplomatic way, it will happen.
His list could could\will also change based on who he sees as a contender for the next two seasons as well as who can guarantee him playing time.
More likely.
If Arenado finishes the season weakly and has lingering health issues it only makes sense to move on.
Having said that.....your mention of “professional/diplomatic” rings true. Players talk and the last thing the Cards need is bad PR in regard to the FO which could impact future negotiations with players.
Agree ! This 'accept a trade or be benched in 2026 as pinch hitter ' has never made sense to me. I think those that want to use a punitive tactic like that do not see the potential pitfalls down the road. I feel that the negative publicity league w would create would steer any free agents away from wanting to play for the Cardinals. Secondly , for the FO to threaten playing time for any player flies in the face of the concept ' the manager determines who is in the lineup ' each game. So if the FO not determining to our manager (whether Oli or someone else that Arenado would be strictly a bench bat ). If Oli is dismissed, what manager in his right mind would take the Cardinal job with that directive. Nobody worth their salt. Only a puppet would do that .
We want future top players WANT to play for the Cardinals not be leary of coming here .
I just feel some are being short-sighted on how this negatively could impact our organization for the future.
I believe Bloom, Arenado , and his agent will resolve this situation. Nado and his agent will expand his list in the offseason and Bloom will 'eat a lot more of the remaining salary than Mo was willing to do ' . Those two things will get another team to bite on Arenado.
The Cardinals are the 4th most attractive team in their own division - FA would much rather player in CHI, MIL or even CIN
The Cardinals have meddled in middle with FA, because the top guys don’t want to come here and BDW won’t pay for the top guys
They have signed (bleep) mid-level FA and been burned.
This whole PR, FA excuse shows how out of touch some fans are. Stop living in yesteryear

You are half right. BDW won't pay for the top guys. That's why high-end FAs don't come here. If the Cardinals offered the top free agents the top offers, they would come here more often than not.

I don't even think it has to do with what other players think. It's just a level of professionalism that I hope they will hold themselves to. Arenado's welcome has worn out simply because of his level of play has dropped off considerably, and he's owned that.
He hasn't had any negative issues off the field, he hasn't had any reported issues in the clubhouse. One can bring up his leadership, but the Cardinals knew what they were getting when they traded for him.
In other words, he has comported himself as a good member of the organization. So, there is no reason to take any sort of negative tone on his way out.
One on one and professional.
Keep the press out of it.

It's just a good way to do business. There is absolutely no reason to be play tough guy and burn a bridge. It just doesn't serve any purpose other than feeding the sharks.
If Arenado were to start trashing the organization, then I could understand taking a harder stance, although I'd still rather they take the professional high-road.
Does he want to finish his career in Colorado? He'd go into the HoF as a Rockie. How many hall of famers do the Rockies have? Also the fans still love him there just from the applause when the Cardinals were there a little bit ago.
The Cardinals give most of the money back that the Rockies have been kicking in from the original deal.
Nado gets some playing time and plays in a hitters park to close out his career. This is a win-win-win.
I agree he's coming off the bench and a defensive replacement going forward with the Cardinals. That ought to be clearly communicated.

He won't sit, he will somehow find a team, he is not a HOF right now and he needs 2 more years of counting numbers.
He better have 2 years of better numbers than these!!! Lol

Yes
And for the record I wouldn’t expect Arenado to talk trash.
High road is best.
No sense creating a lot of “drama” around the team especially with all the garbage that shows up on the Internet.

Here's what you do.
Chaim Bloom first day as POBO
Nolan, you are not playing here anymore, you can either be traded or sit the bench. Arenado would immediately contact his agent and say get me the heck out of here, his list of tradeable teams would expand over the winter. You will have to eat some salary, but it's a sunk cost anyway.
Who disagrees with this concept?
Yeah, it's hardball, but it's the best way out.
And what, you think other star players will not notice your method of negotiations? Yea lets threaten and throw our past star players out to graze. Talk about a losing dynasty!
Nobody cares how Arenado is treated on his way out, where this notion comes from is bizarre. Everybody in MLB knows he has cratered the last 2.5 years, he and his agent should quietly seek a trade in off season, maybe a return to Colorado would be appropo
No big time free agent will consider STL anyway, they are too cheap

You really think the cards can beat 765 mil for Soto?

Where did I say anything of the sort? I said "If the Cardinals offered the top free agents the top offers, they would come here more often than not."
Nowhere did I say the Cardinals could or would make the top offer for a top FA.
I was disputing that FAs would rather play in CHI, MIL or CIN. My point being, location\team preference may be a tie breaker if no real difference between contract offers, but the majority of FAs will, more often than not, take the top offer, regardless of where it is.
