The experience of his 99-00 season was one of the highlights of the entire Blues fanhood. He was so far and away the best defenseman that year. It was just incredible to watch regular season games, the way he controlled the ice. Correct Hart choice. The ending to that season messed us up and became a symbol of Blues inability to break through. I gotta say, when Bryce Salvador scored the OT winner in Game 5 the next year, that was sneakily one of the best things to happen. They actually had a chance against Colorado (in retrospect a team that seemed inevitable) but Turek was burying them early in games in that round.theograce wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 11:13 amProbably some bias and selective memories, but that was the best/most impactful I’ve ever seen any single hockey player in my life. It was incredible watching him. That was the worst/least talented cup team of all time.seattleblue wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 10:54 amYeah but it was an unscheduled heartbreak since the Oilers were not supposed to be anywhere near the championship. Our Blues owning [shirt]bird who married money indicated he was a total loser and dumped Pronger on you. But yeah, that was a hell of a playoffs especially with that Buffalo Carolina conf final where game 7 injury helped Carolina slip thrutheograce wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 10:45 amHe broke me my heart that yearseattleblue wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 10:24 amI can't fault that assessment - Brind'Amour is the last forward to lead his team in ice time while winning a Cup.theograce wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 19:03 pmThey were different players…Federko was far too single flavored sauce for me.seattleblue wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 18:42 pm Brind'Amour got more out of longevity than Federko and was clearer hall of famer, but I think Federko's peak was higher. 9th pick vs 7th pick. I'd argue the Blues' differentiation of Federko relative to that bad 1976 first round class is more impressive than the Brind'Amour pick relative to his field. Still, Brind'Amour was an outstanding pick and another casualty of the utter Shanahan/Stevens disaster
I take Brindy all day long in the playoffs

Re: Blues Best Draft Pick
Wouldnt you have to put Thomas about a lot of these guys esp as a center? 81 pts last year and would have been more had not the injury occurred.
Gilmour
BrindAmour
Federko
AP
Thomas
....... not sure how i can put Oshie, Backes, Parayko, Tank or Ronning ahead of Robert Thomas. Soon Kyrou will be on that list a few more 35 plus goal seasons, and then theres Binnie, Cup winning goalie

Thomas will pass them. I was mostly looking at points.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 13:04 pmWouldnt you have to put Thomas about a lot of these guys esp as a center? 81 pts last year and would have been more had not the injury occurred.

Could it be Federko is the all time leading scorer for the Blues????theograce wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 18:18 pmI don’t get the Federko love. I’d take Brind’Amour over him.ScalesofJustice wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 18:11 pm Bernie Federko was an awesome pick by the Blues and probably their best ever.
Re: Blues Best Draft Pick
Everyone knows that. Just don’t consider him a phenomenal player or pick. Like I said…Brindy all day for me over himScalesofJustice wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 18:20 pmCould it be Federko is the all time leading scorer for the Blues????theograce wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 18:18 pmI don’t get the Federko love. Funny how trade trees work:seattleblue wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 13:39 pm Federko is a strong pick despite him being 7th overall due to all the picks around him. You could argue Brian Sutter was the second best pick in that entire 1976 draft at #20 overall (a second rounder!)
1971 Blues acquired Mike Murphy in a 6 player deal with NYR
1973 Blues trade Murphy to NYR for Ab DeMarco
1974 Blues trade DeMarco in 6 player deal to Pittsburgh for Greg Polis and Bryan Watson
1974 Blues trade Bryan Watson to Detroit in a 6 player deal for Ace Bailey, Ted Harris and Bill Collins
1975 Blues trade Ace Bailey and Stan Gilbertson to Washington for Denis Dupere
1975 Blues trade Denis Dupere to KC for Lynn Powis and a 1976 2nd Round pick
1976 Blues draft Bryan Sutter
This tree also branches off to the deal that brought Red Berenson and Barclay Plager.
1967 Blues draft Ron Stewart in the expansion draft
1967 Blues trade Ron Stewart to NYR for Red Berenson and Barclay Plager
1971 Blues trade Red Berenson and Tim Ecclestone to Detroit for Garry Unger and Wayne Connelly
1971 Blues trade Wayne Connelly, 1st Round Pick Gene Carr and Jim Lorentz for Mike Murphy (where we began),
Moose DuPont and Jack Egers
Re: Blues Best Draft Pick
Best for the Blues or Best NHL Career? Big difference. Best for the Blues would have to be Bernie. Hard to beat the HOF. I'd love to say #91, or 50 because of the Cup, but a HOF election beats a Cup winner, at least according to Hoyle (as my Grandfather used to say).
