On Sept. 17 Musial met Koufax for the last time. In the 7th inning Musial broke up Koufax's no hitter with a single to center.justin17 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 20:30 pmNot this game. Although Frank Howard was the Dodgers primary right fielder in 1963, he didn't play in the September 16 game. Wally Moon was in right field for Los Angeles that night. Musial did hit his 475th and final HR in this game. If the game occurred in 1963, it would have been the game on May 8th. However, I thought you said earlier that your first game was in the 1950s?opti mist wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 19:35 pmSounds like you are right. I asked Grok on Twitter and Grok said: The most likely game is September 16, 1963, at Sportsman’s Park, where the St. Louis Cardinals faced the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Stan Musial hit his 475th and final home run off Johnny Podres. The Cards had won 10 games in a row to move to within one game of the first-place Dodgers in 1963. The Dodgers were coming to town for a three-game series (Sept. 16, 17, 18). I can still remember my excitement more than 60 years later. If the Cards could sweep, they would be up by 2 games over LA. Even winning two of the three games meant a tie for first place.
My dreams were shattered when the Dodgers swept the Cards and left town 4 games ahead. I knew there would be no pennant for STL in 1963. This was also the farewell season of my hero Stan The Man.
Fortunately, things picked up in 1964. They traded for Brock and won the first World Championship of my lifetime.

That's quite naive. I've been too kind on many an occasion and been more sorry for what it cost me than any mean thing I've ever done. From sanity to relationships to property, being too kind has definitely hurt me more than being too mean.opti mist wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 17:58 pmFirst Cards game was in the 50's in Sportsmans Park against the Dodgers.
