Roster spots to Fernandez, Granillo, and Munoz
Kind of surprised by Munoz. He must still be in their pitching plans.
Re: Roster spots to Fernandez, Granillo, and Munoz
Agree
I’m glad they picked the three they did and by-passed Roycroft.
Every time I watched him pitch it reminded me of Earl Weaver nicknaming one of his relievers “Full Pack”.
Anxious to see Fernandez. He was really good in 2024 but was awful at the beginning of this season!

Gorman, Munoz, Fernandez and Granillo for Nado, Helsely, Maton and Matz
how far do we slip below .500 ?
how far do we slip below .500 ?
Re: Roster spots to Fernandez, Granillo, and Munoz
Production wise:
Gorman = Nado
Granillo = Matz
Fernandez < Maton by maybe 0.5 WAR max over 2 months
Munoz < Helsley by maybe 0.5 WAR over 2 months
So 1 win worse overall... but they were already gonna slip below .500 probably given they went 8-16 against terrible teams in July, and August is a much tougher month.

Fernandez has apparently looked much better in Memphis. Then again, it is Memphis. Still, excited to see if he can bring that up to STL.

No Roycroft is a win in my book
Re: Roster spots to Fernandez, Granillo, and Munoz
Roycroft needs an offspeed putch, all he throws is fastballs- no literally.Cusecards wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 14:26 pmAgree

I thought all i ever saw him throw was fastballs so i looked it up- he only throws 4 seam fastball, 2 seam fastball, and a cut fastball which he only throws 16 percent of the time.
He threw a slider on 2024 instead of the cutter, but seemed to replace that with the cutter this year. Whem he only throws 96 most, you need some variety. The cutter isnt big enough difference as secondary pitch and he barely throws it anyway. Just only fastballs wont work- and he doesnt even locate them that well

This. How much can we miss a reliever anyway when we can't score first or even get a lead to begin with?3dender wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 14:41 pmProduction wise:

If O'Brien can have his "come to Jesus" season then anyone can, including Munoz. This is the time to give these guys one last look as the Cards got nothing to play for other than spots for next season. Munoz was a starter...give him some innings and give him some starts and see what happens.

"Munoz was a starter...give him some innings and give him some starts and see what happens". I agree.smilinjoefission wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 16:49 pm If O'Brien can have his "come to Jesus" season then anyone can, including Munoz. His command always seems off.Wattage wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 16:38 pmRoycroft needs an offspeed putch, all he throws is fastballs- no literally.Cusecards wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 14:26 pmAgree

Obviously I’m no pitching coach but when you watch him he’s always falling off the mound.
Makes me wonder about his mechanics as he struggles with control.
