Agreed, they'll get a top-100 prospect, or the equivalent in return. An Old Friend wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 13:34 pm Whoever doesn’t think they’re going to get good prospects back for Helsley are on crack.

This.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 12:51 pmI’m not surprised they aren’t robust the time to move him was in the offseason when he had just finished a great season and they could get a full season from him. Now he’s had a less than great season with a fast ball that now gets crushed and he’s a two month rental
They could have tried to move him last offseason to a team with a higher payroll who was looking at at least a two year window (2025-2026) to compete for a WS. A team like that, if they had acquired him last offseason, could justify offering him a QO after this year and at worst case hope to keep him around for 2026.
Whatever they do get for him now, they should have been able to get considerably more last offseason.

Why? He will be a FA in two months...

I'd deal him C4C.........get the prospect(s)............and if BDWJr/Bloom want him back, then negotiate w/him this winter.
he's already come out the other day and said "I would love to sign back here".

Any team that is contending for a World Series title would shorten the game by an inning for the opposition. That alone deserves multiple prospects in the top 100. Now add bidding into it. If they move Helsley, they're going to get some good prospects. Some of you live in a fantasy thinking the Cards are just going to give him away. A team serious about winning will go for it.

I saw somewhere (can't remember where--don't shoot the messenger) that Mick Abel might be in play if Hels goes to Philadelphia. I'd be happy with that.

Re: ESPN Olney: Cards are exchanging names for Helsley

My point is, I don't care if they do or don't trade Helsley. I don't trust relievers/closers. If they get a deal that works for them, great. If they don't, great..Horseradish wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 15:10 pmSo your argument is that they shouldn’t trade Helsley because the return won’t be as good as it would’ve been last year? You’ve said all along that they didn’t trade him in the offseason because they didn’t get any decent offers (which is pure speculation on your part) and now you’re saying they won’t get any offers so why bother. Excuses for being lazy is what I’m seeing from you.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 13:20 pmWhat if the prospects are more meh? Prior to last year, Helsley had 33 saves across 2 years.Horseradish wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 13:17 pmMissed opportunity to acquire a prospect or two that might help later on? Shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out, you’re being obtuse as usual.
He blows up last year and now has the highest WHIP and ERA of his career...
Do you think teams are noticing that???
They won't pay him to stay so it means little traded or not. I get that people want something instead of nothing. But I just care.
I think the bigger play is moving Hurdy Gurdy

After all of our back and forth about reading Helsley you ultimately say you just don’t care because relievers are volatile and they weren’t going to extend him? Seriously?scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 17:43 pm

It’s called asset management, you either get value in return for assets you’re not going to retain or you let them walk and get nothing. Just because you aren’t getting a huge return doesn’t mean you should be lazy and do nothing.
You never had a point and just wanted to argue.

They got a top 10, and a top 15, and many here are still upset about it. Reality for a guy who "might" pitch 15 - 20 innings for the Mets.rockondlouie wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 13:09 pmLet's hope for a bidding war, then they might get those two prospects from a teams 10-20 or one in the 5-9 range?ramfandan wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 13:02 pmDoubt that too .. the Cardinals will look to multiple prospects deal IMO . Look for two prospects in a teams range of No. 5 thru 20
