No Frondell, Eklund or Stocksilius for Sweden this week so that’s a bit of a bummer. Otto’s little brother Ivar Stenberg will be there though. Likely top-5 pick 11 months from now.
off topic lol
but yes Ivar Stenberg looked like the best forward on his SHL team at times when I watched and he is 17. I completely understand and agree with McKenna #1 but I don't see how Stenberg isn't #2 even with some of the other top talent. when is this game today again?

I think a lot of it has to do with the positional value of the other 2 guys at the top in addition to their skill.
Ryan Roobroeck is a 6'4" center(87 points as a 17 year old for Niagra isn't too shabby and he was PPG+ in both the PO's and the WJC's for them)
Keaton Verhoeff is a 6'4" RHD(potted 21 goals/45 points for Victoria; then went PPG in the their PO's to go with PPG rates at 2 international tournaments: again, not too shabby)
McKenna and Stenberg are legitimately more talented; but they're both wingers(undersized wingers on top of it). Roobroeck and Verhoeff represent the two most valued positions in the League. I can absolutely understand why there's some debate going on; although that debate probably gets settled before Christmas(the WJC's at the latest).
Bottom line; it's shaping up to be one heck of a good top 5 next year.
I'm not looking too closely at the guys in that range just yet; but that's because I expect us to be in the 18-25 range.
USA White defeated Finland 5-3. They were down 3-1 and made the comeback. Ryker Lee and Teddy Stiga both had 2 goals and St. Louisan Shane Vansaghi had the game winner.
USA Blue vs Sweden coming up next...

Vansaghi, now that's a name. Bet you can guess where in STL his folks settled.

Did anyone watch carboneau?
Canada White vs Canada Red on Tuesday will be the first time Canada participates in this tourney.
I’m going to attend on Wednesday which is Sweden vs USA and Canada vs Finland.
The first couple days there’s 2 US and 2 Canadian teams and then they form combined teams the back half of the week. Hopefully Carbonneau is in the lineup on Wednesday.

Yeah great points, and the bottom line is right. I am looking forward to possibly seeing Verhoeff Nov 21 which is a Blues off day that he visits Seattle. March 10 he visits again and I might go after the earlier Blues game.
It's an interesting test case here because McKenna despite being a non center still has to go #1 IMO. He just has to, he is spookily ahead of peers.

Are you looking at Victoria’s schedule? Verhoeff left them and will be playing for North Dakota as a 17 yr old this season. He and Reschny left Victoria for NoDak together.

I think it's likely that McKenna goes 1st overall; but I don't know that it's 100% certain anymore. He did not have a good showing at last years WJC's, especially compared to his cousin's first taste at that level(granted, making the U-20 team at age 17 at all is a statement) and he's never been known as a good defensive player.
The other 3 guys at the top are really frickin' good. McKenna's going to need another "statement" year to fend them off(especially Ivar IMO) and if one of them does put up a similar statement season it could get interesting(keep an eye on Roobroeck, he's got a lot of talent around him). I think it's very likely that McKenna separates himself from the pack, but he got a few chinks in his armor last year. I just don't know that it's a "given" anymore.

Slipped past me! My only reaction to this is relief that I have one or two fewer things to do.

I’ll be very surprised if anyone catches McKenna for 1st overall.
That said, Stenberg did get a hat trick yesterday. But Sweden beat USA Blue…which appears to be the JV team compared to USA White.
I figured I could only pick 1 day to go to this thing so I’m waiting until the US and Canada combine to make stronger rosters. Hoping to see 2 good games on Wednesday.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s still over 90% that he’s first. I just don’t know that it’s the 110% guarantee that it was going into last year.

I'm heading out to Baskin Robbins now. I told the family to stay away from the top 18 flavors. Further, for the rest of their lives, they should be very happy to pick somewhere between 18 and 25. Find the gem that few others want. They thought I was crazy. I told them that I am just preparing them to be a Blues fan.
