NO! Do not trade Donovan!
I’m with you. The return will not match his contribution
Exactly. He is an all star and a CARDINAL. Leave him the he.ll alone.
He was an all-star because we had to have one. He wasn’t voted in by fans. Every player is a Cardinal. Mikolas is a 2 time All-star and a Cardinal, I suppose we shouldn’t trade him either?
He wasn't voted one because Cardinal fans don't care enough to vote him in. He is gold glove caliber and a top notch hitter who should be pursued by teams wanting to add excellence. He should be the face of this organization.
Mikolas? Really. Fortunately, I take you as a more serious poster than this.
Donovan has a .788 OPS this season, a little above his career average. He’s never driven in or scored more than 73 runs in a season. He’s on pace for a little above that in runs this year and less in RBI. He is a solid player, but not someone an excellent team builds around. He’s a really nice complimentary player. If we could get a player with build around potential and more for him we should do it and not look back.
He has the highest wRC+ among all 2B in the National League. Arguing he was somehow an undeserving all-star because he didn't win the popularity contest fan vote is crazy talk.
And it was even higher when the voting was taking place. He's trailed off a bit this month, but still has the highest wRC+ in the league at his position.

2nd highest, Ketel Marte is the highest, albeit he’s not “qualified” because he missed time due to injury. But he’s clearly the best 2Bman in the NL. And Hoerner has a higher fWAR than Donovan right now as well.
And Donovan is again a solid player. It’s been more than just this month (.742 OPS), which actually is better than June (.625 OPS). At the end of the day, he’s a .750-.780 OPS type player. Solid, but not great. And some people act like he’s great.

+1
I like Donnie a lot and wouldn't mind him being a lifetime Cardinal... but I doubt he'll be worth on the field what the FO might pay to extend him.

I believe they'll regret trading Donny away. I think he's the only Cardinal with over 2 WAR. I guess it depends on what you get back, but I would suggest no lottery tickets. Trade him for established major league talent or don't trade him. There's a reason why the Dodgers and Yanks want him.

I take it these are fWar rankings. Winn is undervalued by some on this forum. And Pages is overvalued by some. And he's not even on the list. 0.0 fWAR.

I think Pages is only overvalued by Oli Marmol. Pretty much everyone else knows he’s not good.

He is very solid. And our best player. THAT is the problem. Has nothing to do with Donovan. He was a very deserving all-star this year, but the issue is we don't have a second, third, or fourth all-star level player like we've had in the past. Trading him away is a step backwards. Trading a very solid player isn't going to net you a multiple future all-stars level return. He isn't Juan Soto.
I feel like some on the forums are snake bit. The team has gotten burned so much recently by players that get extended or on contract that just end up stinking badly. That no one wants to take a chance on a player sticking around. Sell high and get something in return seems to be the motto. If anything Fedde definitely proved that. He should have been gone last winter when something better than nothing could have been had. I get it. However Donovan feels different. simply because he is a good placeholder until better comes along. He can fill most any position that opens up and do it without losing his offense. If Donovan is to be moved then it should be in the off season when Arenado is gone, a legit 3rd baseman is in place and the team is convinced JJ is ready for 2nd base. Even then Donovan can still play outfield and infield depth. Nobody has come along to take over that role yet. Now if the team finds and outfield crew also then sell Donny high after a good 2025 for legit talent. Personally I would use Donovan for a trade chip to get Ike Irish from Baltimore before he becomes something in their system. They can trade him after the world series. Donovan and Hence I would reckon would get Irish and another decent prospect or two. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for posting. He's 3rd. TBH they shouldn't really rate starting pitchers. They pitch once every 5 days.

What a nonsense stat!
Helsely has only contributed less than 1 win than an average MLB player?!?! Ok.
Mel, where are you at to tell everyone why this is nonsense? I don't have the energy or the time, lol.

Melville doesn't know anything about WAR other than he hates that he doesn't understand it. So therefore, he hates it. Probably hates nuclear physics as well.
