Dodgers and Yankees pursuing Donovan
Article says the asking price is sky high as it should be. Add Helsley and get Pages and a young pitcher from Dodgers or Dominguez and a young pitcher from Yankees

Re: Dodgers and Yankees pursuing Donovan
Only way I trade Donovan is for one helluva return. Like a young cost controlled corner OFer with OPS north of .800, AND a good SP prospect. Don't worry, MO is timid. He is not trading Donnie.
Re: Dodgers and Yankees pursuing Donovan
Dodgers want Donovan? OK - send Pages, Sheehan, and Miller to St. Louis and they can have Donny and Helsley.

A trade of Donovan will be on Bloom.
Re: Dodgers and Yankees pursuing Donovan
I mentioned this in a thread Rock started a few days ago about a trade with the Dodgers. This makes perfect sense from the Card's perspective for next year and going forward. Plus it opens 2B for JJ in the not too distant future.
Re: Dodgers and Yankees pursuing Donovan
If you are in Mo/Bloom position, make your selections from the list in this article and see if the Dodgers accommodate you. I'd request at least two for Helsley and five for both Helsley and Donovan.https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/th ... e77e8&ei=6

Re: Dodgers and Yankees pursuing Donovan
Obviously.
The CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION is to attempt to extend him now, while he is still multiple seasons away from FA.
Only an idiot would trade him at the deadline.
Which means, since one such person is currently the POBO, it could happen.
Re: Dodgers and Yankees pursuing Donovan
Trading Donnie is absolutely the correct path. He will command a high price (the only one on our roster that would do so that we can easily replace internally). The longer we keep him the less he is worth.
JJ is ready, or very close. Donnie can get us some high ceiling SP. it’s the obvious move if the Cards have the balls to pull it off.
Everyone always wants to trade guys they don’t want, which leads to very little in return. This is only worth doing if you are clearing money. Otherwise, why trade slop for slop. You have to give to get. That’s how this works

Specifically, here is what was said:
Katie Woo wrote:John Mozeliak has started to field calls regarding many of his players, not just pending free agents.
Though the Cardinals have not publicly declared their intent to sell, Mozeliak has reached out to teams to inform them relievers Ryan Helsley, Phil Maton and Steven Matz are available, according to multiple league sources.
St. Louis will entertain offers on Nolan Arenado and Sonny Gray. Both players have full no-trade clauses but could be motivated to waive them for the right fit. Mozeliak has started to gauge the interest of a handful of contending teams, though the talks are described as preliminary. The odds of either player being traded before the deadline remain slim, but the Cardinals are financially motivated to move their contracts.
Multiple teams have inquired about All-Star infielder Brendan Donovan, with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers known to have interest.
Donovan is not considered untouchable, and the Cardinals will listen, team sources said. But the asking price is sky-high, and St. Louis is in no rush to part with him, as he still has two years of arbitration remaining. Other position players gathering varying levels of interest are Iván Herrera, Alec Burleson and Lars Nootbaar. The Cardinals will not part with one of their position players unless they are blown away by the offer, and their conversations have not progressed past initial check-ins.
Re: Dodgers and Yankees pursuing Donovan
They should extend him now, but they probably won't, and he will play out his time here and either walk away as a FA, or the Cards will trade him during his 2027 season, and not get the kind of return he should command now.
I love the guy, he is my favorite player on the team, but I have come to the conclusion that he is worth more now in trade than he ever will be, and the Cards have JJ on the horizon to take his place at 2B. SO....if you can get outstanding return for him (like Pages and/or pitching) you have to go for it.
