First time I ever had fish tacos was many years ago while attending a trade show in San Diego. Just across the tracks from the SD Convention Center and near the entrance to the Gaslamp District is a place called Tin Fish. It may not be the best SoCal has to offer, but for a fish taco newbie it was awesome!LuvthaBlues wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 09:12 am I had high hopes for some swordfish tacos at a new place I checked out a couple weeks ago up here in the NE. Boy was I let down. I miss those SoCal fresh fish tacos.

Tried a new way to make hamburgers last night that was terrific.
Bake the burgers for 50-55 minutes at 250F then put them on the blackstone for 2 minutes per side at high heat... they turned out amazing.

Paul Manno's in Chesterfield. It's like stepping into a time machine. Old school Italian. Tony's-esque and incredible.George Zipp wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 08:18 am a smell of green grass, look at me, I'm trolling you. Not really, I'm just missing the point of my foe list.
I never advocate for the use of the foe function but man alive does it work wonders for this clown. At least in this thread nobody is quoting him. I encourage everyone to give it a whirl.
Does anyone remember Beev from the old CA forums? He did the exact same thing. Would start topics over and over and over on the exact same things Got the same kind of love.
I'd like to steer the food convo (love it by the way) in a different direction. I'm not hoidy toidy by any means but I'd like to discuss nicer places. You know, the places around town where you go for a milestone birthday or anniversary or to celebrate something special, or just because you feel like it. My current go to places for such occasions: Vicia, Olive and Oak and Annie Gunns. All vastly different food experiences. All share top notch food quality, service, atmosphere with very little pretension especially compared to the experience you get at places like this in bigger cities. What say you?

I would get beef pepitos which are basically tacos but the flour shell was fried. So good! I’m out in Wentzville now and there used to be a Ruiz in Wright City but they closed. I was so bummed!bud white wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 10:11 amOh man.. I loved Ruiz! Fajitas there were phenomenal!netboy65 wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 09:29 amI like El Maguey as well. About 3-4 years ago my partner got me the Paul Hollywood baking book from Great British Bake Off which we watch (also Top Chef, and the Jesse Palmer Baking Championships) and I morphed into an amateur baker/home cook. It's really about finding the right recipes and following directions. Now I make cakes for everyone's birthdays throughout the year and ship them off, and I cook frequently. It's very satisfying to go from weak bachelor-caliber bland sustenance cooking to regularly producing restaurant worthy meals. I highly recommend learning to cook & bake.
Melissa Clark's book Dinner is outstanding, every thing we have made from it has been great.
Also America's Test Kitchen Cook it in your Dutch Oven book has been valuable. Dutch ovens are great
The salmon, halibut, crab, etc that we have up here is as awesome as our temperate summer climes. If you're in Tacoma I recommend Lobster Shop

I have yet to even drive by yet, but the talk at work is a taco truck that parks at the old Dolnick's parking lot on Page just down from Warson on Saturdays. I've heard it's so popular with the Mexican community, it's hard to get to, because the line is real.

Can we get the PD bots off this forum?
Every time they post the rage bait to get responses, you scroll by 2 - 4 advertisements. That's why they do it.

The garden leads me to stay home. Fresh Tomatoes, herbs, celery, onions, and a variety of peppers (Green, Jalepeno, and Serrano) make for some mean salsa. Had pork and corn topping with flour tortillas, fresh salsa and smelted colby jack cheese. mmmm Cholula hot sauce.

Re: Blues Own Sideshow Distractions
There are no PD bots. In life, some people figure out how to play by the rules and do harm. They win. The reality is, he's a real person who wakes up in the morning and intends us malice and delivers it. Does anyone look around at the world and see anything different? It's totally insane to imagine a conspiracy for a person doing the most person thing there is – being a piece of [shirt] to others. That's why we're in the situation we are in today. Not conspiracies. People. It's the best that people can do.
Therefore, choose to behave well as a radical refusal to participate in this lazy, malicious, mediocre, human miasma.
