Re: Walker up, Saggese down
I believe he started his rehab assignment on June 28th, so they didn't have to bring him up, yet.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 11:03 amWould you rather have him down now and burn the option year for 2 months or keep him up for the 2.5 months and send him to Memphis next year until he proves he can hit?An Old Friend wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 10:56 am Good call on bringing up Walker... 18 Ks in 60 PA while hitting .185.
Guess they're really trying to not burn his option year.
They’ve put themselves into a no win position really.
Seems like they want 10 extra days to evaluate him, specifically.
Saggese going down... easy call. Walker up... something else to it.
Re: Walker up, Saggese down
Rehab max is 20 days. It’s July 18th, so 28th would have been 20/21 days ago. If they waited I believe they would have had to burn the option. An Old Friend wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 11:22 amI believe he started his rehab assignment on June 28th, so they didn't have to bring him up, yet.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 11:03 amWould you rather have him down now and burn the option year for 2 months or keep him up for the 2.5 months and send him to Memphis next year until he proves he can hit?An Old Friend wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 10:56 am Good call on bringing up Walker... 18 Ks in 60 PA while hitting .185.

Re: Walker up, Saggese down
This may signal the Cardinals intention for the rest of the season: If they still see this as a rebuilding year, then might as well have Walker here facing big-league pitching.slimjay63801 wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 11:09 amThat's what I'm afraid of.... He would be better off finishing the season in Memphis..Red Bird Classic wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 11:05 am They intend to play him almost everyday. Otherwise they'd leave him in Memphis.

Re: Walker up, Saggese down
I've stated previously that I think Walker is Atlanta bound, with relief pitching coming back.
I think now the Cards will include Saggese for more pitching.

You're right, that's my miss. Learned something today, didn't realize pitchers had 30 days but position players had 20.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 11:25 amRehab max is 20 days. It’s all good, the one thing I don’t know about is how the break affects it because full season minor leagues are on a break this week, too. Is it straight 20 days no matter what or does the break extend that 20 days a little bit?An Old Friend wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 11:33 amYou're right, that's my miss. Re: Walker up, Saggese down
There will be a shuffle around 2B and 3B between Gorman, Donovan, and Arenado. When Donovan is at 2B, a corner OF spot opens.Baseball Savant wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 10:39 am Will Walker get at bats with Noot out? I dont see it
Donovan LF
Herrera DH
Burleson RF
Contreas 1B
Gorman 2B
Arenado 3B
Winn SS

Scott CF

Pozo
Walker
Fermin
Hampson
Likewise there will be a shuffle between RF, DH and sometimes 1B
There are 4 starts a week for both Walker and Gordon.
If Hampson or Fermin see any time in RF or LF, Oli has screwed this up and should be fired for incompetence.
This is still a runway season. Dont be fooled. They are pretenders, not contenders in 2025. Just look who the SP is 3 out of 5 games. Plus Libby is getting gassed.
And trading Helsley, Maton and Matz by the deadline is just the smart thing to do. I don't expect the Cardinals to be smart here. They are conflicted and wish washy.

Re: Walker up, Saggese down
Another problem they have is the subpar defense in LF, RF and 2B with the shuffle

It doesn't matter who plays, we're not contenders/buyers.
We're, hopefully, in showcase mode the next 13 days. Showcasing our selling chips.

Right! Who knows what this team will look like tonight after almost a week off. They don't need to throw Walker out there everyday though. Not everyday, but they could put him out there tonight and then make decisions on a day by day basis on how he looks and how healthy everyone seems. He might cork one in the desert.
Gorman does need to play at Coors though.
