NO! If he is traded, all you have done is create another hole in the line up. Nobody currently on the roster is as good.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
How the heck do we know? What’s he being offered in return? Let me answer this way. Arenado he will be knocking on doors to trade. Donovan only if right deal knocks on his door.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Agree nobody on current roster as good.
As for another hole, his 2nd base spot would be replaced by the team’s No. 1 prospect for final month of this year plus into future with Wetherholt.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Ok, so you get a good player in return, what have you realistically gained. That player is still surrounded by the same bunch Donovan was. With better players around Donovan, he will be a better player.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
What is best about Donny is his consistency.
His wRC+ in his 4 years = 127, 118, 115, 126. He's not elite defensively at any position, but he's good at many. (The GG was for utility, not a specific position.)
I have no desire to trade him, but like all trades, it depends on the offer.
Again, they have to find a way to fix the roster.

That's over the top even for the internet. The Cards are looking to improve in a couple of key areas. You aren't going to get the return for Nootbar than you would for BD. One of the best prospects in baseball should be ready sometime next year to play where he's playing now. If he can help get a top of the rotation starter or a power hitting OF then why wouldn't you trade him under the circumstances.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 18:37 pmIf so, they've turned in to the Pirates. Trade the good players before you have to pay them. Winn next, then JJ. Rinse and repeat.bakker wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:24 pm Very good possibility. Made that comment in a thread yesterday. He would bring back a bigger return than most if not all of the other realistic options and an in-house replacement seems to be available. Further only 2 more years on team control and the second year could involve a lengthy lock out or strike.

Do you really think a team is going to trade a TOR pitcher, or a stud power hitting corner outfielder for a 2b? Would you trade your best pitching prospects for BD?bakker wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 19:05 pmThat's over the top even for the internet. The Cards are looking to improve in a couple of key areas. If you trade BD you're doing it to avoid a pay raise, and you hope that you get an equal player in return. AKA, the Pittsburg Pirates.

Donovan has two arb years left. In a normal environment they might either buy those out and extend two more years or trade him. But with declining revenue and the CBA up after '26 I think any of their action for the MLB club this offseason will be minor.ramfandan wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:17 pm Speculation starting that Brendan Donovan may be on the Atros radar at trade deadline as well as Yankees . Some think Mo would not make a blockbuster on the way out the door as POBO. (He would defer that decision to Bloom after Mo departs .)

Astros rumor: https://sports.yahoo.com/article/cardin ... 12986.html
With both 2026 & 2027 years remaining , Donovan is cost-controlled for two more years (whatever he gets in arbitration ).
For those who are of the philosophy, trade a player while he is at his highest value prior to losing him his free agency year , Donnie fits that right now.
He garnered All Star honors plus was the only player garnering 2 hits . He has earned a Gold Glove and is versatile other than 2nd base too .
3rd highest batting average.
For Donovan currently , there would be a king's ransom for a player his caliber. Bloom could get quite the haul . Some MLB Radio talk said Bloom more likely since he has JJ Wetherholt to play 2nd base in 2026 and beyond
So what are you thinking ? If Donovan isn't traded in a surprise move at the deadline, do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Yes or No
Important note : The question did NOT ask if YOU would trade Donovan this winter but rather if you feel Bloom would do so.
You may say YES Bloom will but I hope he does not . No, Bloom will not but I hope he does .

Depends what they have in the hopper. If they have a replacement I think so.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
I never said they would. One where did I post someone giving up their best pitching prospect? Further where did I post it would be one for one? I posted if he can help get that type of player. Where I did I post it was to avoid a pay raise? Yes it's relevant there's only 2 more years of control but more importantly you have to give the team you are trading with quality to get quality in return. BD could go a long way to make that happen. If you think that's what the Pirates have been up to over the past several decades you haven't been following them very closely.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 19:31 pmDo you really think a team is going to trade a TOR pitcher, or a stud power hitting corner outfielder for a 2b? Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
If done correctly, what you gain is a young player, maybe two, that the club controls for six years…
Passing on a good deal is just treading water…
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Donovan is one of the team’s best hitters and when you add in his position versatility he is quite valuable and his team control increases his value.
Of course....all of that makes his trade value fairly high.
The Cards have zero reason to want to move him but anybody can be dealt in the right deal.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. You didn't mention a pay raise. Other posters have basically suggested moving him before his next contract.bakker wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 19:38 pmI never said they would. I just don't know who you package him with to get a TOR guy. I don't even think him and Helsley get you that. Too pitching prospects are gold.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Don't get me wrong I think he's heck of a player. It's because of that I think he could be moved for another very good player who might help fill a need at a position of need. The fact the team seems to have a viable replacement makes it mire likely. He's probably my favorite player.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Totally agree. I was sort of trying to say it would take a lot to get rid of him.

Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
It depends on the offer. Problem with Donovan is he isn’t the type of player for which most teams would offer their top prospects. For a couple of young arms with loads of remaining control… yeah, I think that would be considered even if they project as relievers.
It also depends on what Donovan might command in an extension, and if ownership would green light it. If he’s dead set on FA, then it’s stupid to keep him.
