Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
He’s the most attractive player on the roster, so they should be open to it
The issue is when.
25/26/27 deadlines, of the 25, 26 off season…?

No but he should be a 2b. Our ss is also untradeable. All the rest are placeholders til someone better comes along.

No way the Cards will trade their best player in his prime only 30 and fan favorite.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Problem is I look at the list of OFers and it’s hard to picture any good MLB OF being available or dealt. So you’re looking at prospects. And unless the Mariners are willing to give up Lazaro Montes (doubtful although Trader Jerry might be getting the itch to make a deal) I don’t see a good matchup trade wise.11WSChamps wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 16:35 pm I can see it happening.
Wetherholt would slide into the 2B position and the return for Donovan and probably another player/prospect would be a corner OF'er who actually can hit and play the position and not be a part-time infielder.
What the Cardinals would have to spend in arbitration or in a long term deal to sign Donovan cojld be used at least in part to pay for the OF'er coming back in a trade.
A corner OF MOB is this teams most pressing need in the lineup and Donovan would likely be part of the asking price.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
I fully expect him to

I think BD could play some LF with JJ at 2b. I wouldn't say Winn is untradeable but he wouldnt be the first option. Noot is the odd man out.MrPostman01 wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 16:47 pm No but he should be a 2b. Our ss is also untradeable. All the rest are placeholders til someone better comes along.

Perhaps you are correct……redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 16:48 pm No way the Cards will trade their best player in his prime only 30 and fan favorite.
If so, then the club is really not ready to take the steps to rebuild.

We need SPs. I doubt we would get a 30 HR hitter.
Don't know. Show me an offer.

No.
Donovan is the heart of the team, and our most consistent player.
You build around, not through him.
Looking forward to seeing he and JJ on the infield together.

Not sure I agree with that.MrPostman01 wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 16:47 pm No but he should be a 2b. Our ss is also untradeable. All the rest are placeholders til someone better comes along.
JJ changes things.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Donovans bat is still well above league average ops for an outfielder(or 3b) and hes the only possible reliable option we have for outfield other than burleson. Sure cardinals could experiment with herrera at outfield but if we were starting burly and herrera at the corners every day, that defense looks ugly.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:40 pm Option A - trade Donovan. AS with mid level salary for 2 more years of control
Option B - trade JJW - MLB ready by spring, high potential, very high trade value
Option C - trade Winn - Proven MLB SS. 4 years control remaining, unsure of realizable trade value in a market where a lot of top teams already have an elite SS around the same age
Option D - Trade Saggese - probably just filler in a larger trade
what do you do? None of them have that 100 RBI Rolen/Glaus type Moto bat we need at 3b and LF to get our offense to the next level. And 2b/SS is only 2 starting spots.
Donovan is also a fan favorite and i feel trading him would cause an even bigger max exodus of fan attendance. He also one of the few cardinals worth merchandising.
I cant see it.
Saggsse trafe is possible but i dont see much a return. You left out gorman who i think is also a major trade candidate.

As to building around him……by the time they accumulate enough quality players to be a legitimate contender, he will be a free agent and likely to move on…
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
You have to give something to get something -- suggested trades of saggese and noot might fetch lottery ticket prospects in return but nothing of significance. Gorman has some value but it is somewhere between the afore mentioned pair and donovan. If someone offers what you think is fair and enough for Donovan you have to listen. the sooner you trade him the more valuable his is --- the smaller mkt teams will pay for 2 yrs of service and thus may drive up his price. If you wait they will no longer pay as high a price and so the demand for Donovan shrinks to teams who think they can resign him.

I don't think anyone will be off the table. But, I think Bloom will only trade Donnovan if someone overpays.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
totally agree -- my point is if you decide to make him available it needs to be soon to get an overpay.imyourhuckleberry wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 18:07 pm I don't think anyone will be off the table. But, I think Bloom will only trade Donnovan if someone overpays.

If so, they've turned in to the Pirates. Trade the good players before you have to pay them. Winn next, then JJ. Rinse and repeat.bakker wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:24 pm Very good possibility. Made that comment in a thread yesterday. He would bring back a bigger return than most if not all of the other realistic options and an in-house replacement seems to be available. Further only 2 more years on team control and the second year could involve a lengthy lock out or strike.
