It all comes down to odds?
What is wrong with taking a shot? He's chosen a path that will have him on ice in August just let that be good enough for now.
Me I watch sports for this very kind of thing....including feats out of the ordinary.....and I love that aspect of being a fan.

This is true but it is part of the new CBA which doesn't start until 26-27. Unless they agreed to make this new rule retroactive to 25-26?Bubble4427 wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 17:15 pmI thought they changed the rule a few weeks ago and each team can play 1 player in the AHL that is currently considered underage.

Re: Anyone believe Carbonneau is close?
no,
Some of best draft guys who follow NHL, said there is no one who will make an nhl team. a couple might get a 9 game cup of coffee, and they even doubt that. they said the Islanders player is only one who has a chance, if by some miracle, of making a roster, and they had that as 10% or less. They expect a 9 game show, but wouldnt be shocked if no one got the 9 game cup of coffee. They think whole group of prospects need a year or 2 at the least in minors/juniors/college

I don't think he's going to make the Blues this season. Now what does lend that there is a chance is a couple of things. From everything I've read, he's physically more ready than the average 18 year old. As a winger it's a less demanding position technically. If he's a center or defense I'd say it's a much longer shot.

Re: Anyone believe Carbonneau is close?
I'm aware that it is possible for some players to play in their draft year, typically a few of the TOP5.seattleblue wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 16:38 pm It's not hypocrisy to treat different players differently. Snuggy would not have been this ready straight after being picked, and it's the rare prospect who steps in at 18 and contributes on an NHL roster. Perron got the 9 game trial and stuck; Petro got it and went back to juniors twice. Sometimes it's useful if a player is physically capable of handling the NHL (and with Carbonneau's speed and size he could probably hang for some games as is) to get them a feel for how much faster the game is at this level. The team knows the player isn't ready. But the player has to feel it by getting a little taste.
More likely than not what happens is he gets a couple of preseason games and then goes back to junior. But he's hungry to stick so they're leaving the door cracked, that's all Armstrong's comments are. He isn't publicly shutting the kid's hopes down. Reality is going to take care of that.
Then he will go back to Bavaroise-Bloinbilleneuve where they will have a strong team. They have a 5'10" LHD named Xavier Ouellet who is an early top 15 pick for next year. They expect to contend for a Q title and possible Memorial Cup. He will possibly play in the world juniors. I thought I saw someone point out he can go to the AHL the year after that. Once he's in the AHL it's a simple call-up situation once he's ready. It would be very surprising if he made the team out of camp but he has the kind of brash talent and intention about making it that's hard not to notice.
However, when I watched Carbonneau, that is not what I saw. Further, it seems that the consensus from BluesTalkers that he is not ready this year likely.
What I'm pondering is why Army is willing to flirt with the idea of Carbonneau in the NHL immediately. With our other recent draft picks, it was the slow-walk from Day 1.
We'll see how this plays out. Thanks for everyone's feedback on what you're seeing.

This was my wish too. He needs to play with a top-notch Center and figure out how to fit into that world.bud white wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 16:57 pm Not everybody is cut out for college - but I do wish he would have gone the BC route. Seemed as if he'd done everything he could in the Q.
But who knows .. maybe he wants to win a Memorial Cup. And staying in Jrs. gives him a chance to get to the N. He'll know more about where he stands when he gets through his first camp. So will the team.

oh I fully get what you're doing. it's an opportunity to attack on the GM in the fake guise of "asking questions" because your time is cheap in the real world and you have time to do this all the time. you waste real time this way. you must lack talent in real areas.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 18:15 pm

Re: Anyone believe Carbonneau is close?
Is it possible Army wants Carbonneau to come to camp to take him down a peg or two? Carbonneau has been physically dominating kids and it may have given him a false impression of his readiness. When he comes to camp, he’ll be going up against men, especially if he plays in any preseason games. He’ll find the physicality a little different. If he stands up to it, he might be more ready than anyone thinks. More likely, it’ll be a huge education.

Re: Anyone believe Carbonneau is close?
It starts with the new CBA. But it’s a moot point as Carbonneau will be considered 20 for the 2026-27 season anyway so he’s AHL eligible that season regardless.Frank Barone wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 17:24 pmThis is true but it is part of the new CBA which doesn't start until 26-27. I see lots of fan blog projecting there. Very little in actual substance. Here’s the quote they base all their conjecture on:a smell of green grass wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 16:56 pmHere is one article. He used to say this? Ok, what is he saying now? If he used to say this sort of thing then the example wasn’t about Carbonneau.I used to look at [Jim Montgomery] and say, “He’s going to make it hard for us, him.” – Doug Armstrong
Here’s what I think. I think Army was paying the kid a compliment. Saying he’s doing well. Giving him a carrot to chase. But Army also isn’t an idiot. He knows Carbo has near zero chance of actually making the team out of camp. Your theory is based on fan blog conjecture IMO.

I actually really like the idea of them doing that. Anytime the kids can spend time with the big club, no matter the sport, is beneficial IMO.Red7 wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 20:34 pm Is it possible Army wants Carbonneau to come to camp to take him down a peg or two? Its not beneficial at all if an 18 year old turns the puck over and you lose the eighth game of the season then miss the playoffs by 2 points.Barksdale's People wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 21:13 pmI actually really like the idea of them doing that. Re: Anyone believe Carbonneau is close?
The Blues are just pumping the kid’s tires a bit like every team does with their prospects. At most he could get a 9 game (or less) trial to give him a taste of the NHL. It’s super unlikely that he fully makes the jump this year when we’ve got a small handful of forward prospects already in the AHL chomping at the bit.
