Franklin throws heat with no movement and his secondaries suck.
Fangraphs concurs, calling him 'an arm strength-only project.'
On Mitchell, they credit him with '<one> of the best-looking swings in this entire draft.' They add that as the second round was beginning, word began circulating that St. Louis was targeting Mitchell and they got their guy.
MLB sure liked him. Though a reliever some think the 6-5, 225 lb pitcher will get first look as potential starter. Grade 70 fastball is nice to start
He is a high risk / high reward pick was who selected above rank.
Great fastball with command issues on his secondary pitches.
Equal chance of being steal and bust.
The pick which most interests me is Mitchell, SS drafted as an outfielder.
The outfield has been a disaster for the Cardinals for the past decade, and his 60 grade hit tool is something the organization really needed to add to its system.
Mitchell is an Alec Burlinson, Erich Church, Brendan Donovan, Chase Davis, Matt Koperniak, hitter: Left-handed with limited power potential. Along with their 3rd round pick, they are well-stocked in that department.
Brendan Donovan's type bat with quality defense in CF would be outstanding. I'm looking forward to seeing how Mitchell turns out.
I like each of the first 3 picks. Even the 4th pick , Gurevitch at 1B / 3B/ LF/ feels like Burly type pick and his bat plays.
The pitchers are definitely an immediate test of the Bloom development system to get those secondary pitches refined. The Cardinals did not draft Doyle or Franklin to be relievers. That is their floor barring injuries.
No they didn't get a RH hit/ power bat. That is what trades and international signs are going to be for. Again a test of Bloom style roster construction.

Living here in Tenn. I had some previous info on Mitchell. He was the Tenn. Gatorade Player of the Year . I watched highlights of him a few times.
Liked his hard hit balls and he sure could motor out of the box . Liked his hustle . Think with his speed he could play CF in The Show. Germantown is a bit east of Memphis so I was bit too far (3 hours plus ) to watch him in person but all the clips I saw sure looked good.
Good stuff.
Appreciate the local insights.
The kid is 6'2' /185 in high school.
Projects a good mixture of strength and speed.
That is exactly the type of profile STL once looked for in outfielders and needs to get back to.
Think Jordan/Gilkey/Lankford back in the 90's.

We'll know more in a few years.
I'd bet the Cardinals analytic-ised this pick till the cows came home. They got the guy they wanted.
If their models are bollocks (as the Brits say) or if the development system has not developed or if Franklin just gets hurt, we will see.
But I like this kind of dice roll vs pitch-to-contact, lo ceiling safe pick we've seen for decades.
You guys are ridiculous. Constantly complaining about the Cardinals not having front of the rotation pitching. But when they go take the necessary risks in the draft to get them you all are still pitching and moaning.
