Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?

Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
Contreras may have changed his mind. Seeing a team that may be not be a contender during his remaining time here and doesn't appear to have his back after getting hit by pitches.
Seattle has the pitching to contend but desperately need a good rh bat for first base or DH. Cards would have to take back Garver to offset the salary remaining this year. His contract ends this year so that would clear payroll next year.
As far as a return don’t think they would give up Montas, Ford is a lh catcher but Cards are thick with catchers. I would want Arroyo and maybe a pitcher like Izzie or Jeter Martinez both high ceiling young pitchers trying to harness their control. Arroyo is a middle infielder but has 55 grade power and hits right handed. He’s just 20 and is hitting well with power in AA now. He’s their #6 prospect but #65 in the top 100 in a very deep system.

And he’s already said as much.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 19:45 pm Mo should only be considering what's for dinner. He has no business making any major decision regarding the roster.
Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
That is my fear. Mo does nothing and lets Helsley, Matz and even Feddee walk with nothing to show. If he is making the call which is what appears to be the case then he’s unlikely to add to the mlb roster for next year with trades as he has stated he wants a clean slate for Bloom next year. The best we can hope for that he adds prospects that won’t have to be on the 40 man roster yet.An Old Friend wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 21:47 pmAnd he’s already said as much.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 19:45 pm Mo should only be considering what's for dinner. All offers, for any player, should be listened to

He's still making decisions. Hence Fedde starting today. An Old Friend wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 21:47 pmAnd he’s already said as much.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 19:45 pm Mo should only be considering what's for dinner. He has no business making any major decision regarding the roster.

Right. It sucks. Even suggested that he’s not collaborating with Bloom on this deadline, it’s his final show, he’s not going to really plan or decide until they’re a few days away… he’s gonna do just about nothing.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 23:06 pmHe's still making decisions. DeWitt just doesn't care at this point. A smart businessman doesn't allow an outgoing executive to make decisions that impact the future. An Old Friend wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 23:48 pmRight. It sucks. Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
I like what WC brings to the team. He has much needed fire, something the team has lacked for a few years.
With that said. They should listen to all offers. It's definitely time for this team to get a pretty hefty face lift. They still need to be in a buy/sell mode.
4-5 guys from the current roster need to be moved and 1-2 catchers from the roster and minors need to be moved.
Re-surface the team with a mix of prospects and vets. Let Bloom start to build his future, and no need to wait fir the deadline.

No reason not to trade Contreras, however do we really want MO making any baseball decisions?

Pretty sure any Cardinals fan w/an ounce of sense knows WillyC has a NTC and has already say's he will not waive.

6 edits? 3 lines? A Cards Talk record for stupidity. Congrats “Coach”. Ha, ha.Shady wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 16:25 pmThat makes a lot of sense. I've thought Winn should be untouchable, right now. But they keep playing Wetherholt at SS in the minors. Maybe they'd even move Winn at a bigtime premium. Like a future #1 or #2 pitcher or a slugging young outfielder. Then install Wetherholt at SS. This would be an impressive top four in the lineup. Donovan, Wetherholt, Burleson and Herrera. Some outstanding hitting talent.AtillaTheBlue1 wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 16:24 pm everyone should be up for grabs, except a few.
all the vets, ntc or not should be asked if they want to move
lots of buyers who need what cardinals have and will pay for it, unless mo;ron blows it
Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
It's obvious to me the respect a lot of opposing teams have for Burleson as a hitter, Also, considering his salary/control situation. It would surprise many CT posters what Burleson could bring in a trade. Maybe more than Contreras.IMO

It’s none of my business why or what he chooses to do……..but I would really like to know why he would rule out a trade to a contender…
Perhaps he just wants to go back to Venezuela immediately after the last game….no pesky playoffs to delay him…

Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
They could all be on and help a winning team. I just don't think 3 of those are what you build around (reserving judgement on JJ). Donovan, Burly and Ivan are all guys you use to build around an Albert P, a Goldy/Arenado pair. They are kinda like Julian Javier. He was a very important part of the 64, 67 and 68 teams but the team wasn't built around him. It was built around guys like Brock, Gibson, White, Boyer, ChaCha. Even Shannon and Flood were more supporting players then players to build around.Shady wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 18:59 pmWith a starting pitching upgrade. The players I listed, including Winn, could, at least, win the Central Division one of these days.HorseTrader wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 18:43 pmContreras has already said he doesn't want to be traded. I'm not as impressed with Donovan, Wetherholt, Burleson and Herrera as you seem to be (offensively). Wetherholt looks good but far from proven. He wouldn't be the first 1st rounder to become a 4A player. Burly is an ok secondary player, he's not a star, he's not the guy to bat in top 4 on a WS team.
Herrera, everyone seems to think he will be a star hitter, I'll say he looks good. I'll also say that over the past 4 years he's had basically one year worth of ABs. The numbers look good, not great. Are we sure he's the future 3/4 hitter, or is he another #2/#6/7?
Donovan is a gamer, plays good++ defense and doesn't care where he plays. A guy like that with a little offense can really help a team win. Never a star, not middle of the order type (more of a Tommy Herr then an Albert).
Not really trying say they are bums because they aren't they are all 4 good players (hopefully JJ will be more) but none is the star for a WS team.
