Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
I realize Contreras has a NTC. But maybe he'd accept a trade to some high level contender. He might have some decent trade value. Burleson would be an adequate replacement at 1B for a while.

everyone should be up for grabs, except a few.
all the vets, ntc or not should be asked if they want to move
lots of buyers who need what cardinals have and will pay for it, unless mo;ron blows it

That makes a lot of sense. I've thought Winn should be untouchable, right now. But they keep playing Wetherholt at SS in the minors. Maybe they'd even move Winn at a bigtime premium. Like a future #1 or #2 pitcher or a slugging young outfielder. Then install Wetherholt at SS. This would be an impressive top four in the lineup. Donovan, Wetherholt, Burleson and Herrera. Some outstanding hitting talent.AtillaTheBlue1 wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 16:24 pm everyone should be up for grabs, except a few.

No reason not to
Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
I wouldn't trade Westerholt unless I was blown away
I wouldn't trade Winn unless I was blown away.
The rest are negotiable.
Since Contreras was the thread title- my thought about him today was million dollar talent 10 cent brain. By all means move him if possible. We need for "smart" to be on any acquired players resume.

Why did you list Burleson amongst those other names? A sub .800 OPS bat-first guy is not someone you build around as a core player.Shady wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 16:25 pmThat makes a lot of sense. You also said you “realize WC has NTC”. Apparently you don’t. Low baseball IQ post as usual.

I would love if they could move Contreras. I feel he has been a disappointment offensively!

For pending FA’s you get what you can.
Players under control of course could be dealt for the right price.
The whole buyer vs seller labels are a joke.

Can they move ownership?

Contreras has already said he doesn't want to be traded. Yes, I'd still ask him again.Shady wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 16:25 pmThat makes a lot of sense. I've thought Winn should be untouchable, right now. I'm not as impressed with Donovan, Wetherholt, Burleson and Herrera as you seem to be (offensively). Wetherholt looks good but far from proven. He wouldn't be the first 1st rounder to become a 4A player. Burly is an ok secondary player, he's not a star, he's not the guy to bat in top 4 on a WS team.
Herrera, everyone seems to think he will be a star hitter, I'll say he looks good. I'll also say that over the past 4 years he's had basically one year worth of ABs. The numbers look good, not great. Are we sure he's the future 3/4 hitter, or is he another #2/#6/7?
Donovan is a gamer, plays good++ defense and doesn't care where he plays. A guy like that with a little offense can really help a team win. Never a star, not middle of the order type (more of a Tommy Herr then an Albert).
Not really trying say they are bums because they aren't they are all 4 good players (hopefully JJ will be more) but none is the star for a WS team.

Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
Teams looking for an upgrade at 1B right now are Giants, Mariners, Red Sox, and Rangers. SF and Seattle are not great places to hit. The Red Sox have Triston Casas back next year. The Rangers seem like a good fit. I wonder if he would approve a trade to Texas?
Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
With a starting pitching upgrade. The players I listed, including Winn, could, at least, win the Central Division one of these days.HorseTrader wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 18:43 pmContreras has already said he doesn't want to be traded. Re: Should Mo consider trying to trade Contreras?
I dont think his trade valuenis as great as you think. Maybe if he was still catching or if he was making less money. But as is, his ops is about middle of the pack for 1b to slightly top half and he is making 18 mil next year and 18.5 mil in 2027 and 17.5 mil option but 5 mil buyout in 2028. I dont thi k hes negatove value contract but dont think thats a super deal anymore either. Maybe if we ate some of the money ypu cam get a return.

Mo should only be considering what's for dinner. He has no business making any major decision regarding the roster.

All are for sale with the right deal. There's not one of the starters that should be considered untouchable
