That was right before my Senior year of high school started. I was crushed, I can say it's the first time I remember crying over the loss of someone famous. Beat heroin and die in a crash, such a waste. Thumbs up to you sir.
I think it was Denis Leary had a bit, he was talking about how life is unfair and one of the examples he used was Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead and yet Jon Bon Jovi walks the earth.
OoooOoo, you hit one of my pet peeves… I hate Bon Scrotum with a passion, for so many reasons. Lil turd actually thought he was a metalhead back in the day.
I could not agree with you more. That band is like a horrific stomache flu plus food poising with the body expelling nutrition and waste out of all orrifices.

Saw Metallica in a bar in 1984. No glam, just thrash Cliff was amazing.

Yeah, if I could go back in time and see bands that I missed in my lifetime...
SRV
Triumph
Motorhead
John Lee Hooker

And so glad that Dave was kicked outta Metallica, cuz lots more music to enjoy with 2 bands, tho I lost interest in Metallica once Jason left. Cliff was a great music writer.

Another fortunate concert. Saw Ozzy with Randy just before he passed.... honestly guys, I am not a curse!

Hazelwood72. (and others) ; When you start the "True Blues" video, it starts with the great Harry Caray (my favorite announcer before Dan Kelly came along) announcing a Bob Gibson home run in the World Series vs Boston ..before the video goes on to show the old Arena on Oakland Ave and Blues highlights for their 1st 20 years. Neat that 2 of you have the VHS tape. I have a copy too, plus phonograph records from the '68 and '81 Blues seasons.

Funny you should mention the band leader, Russ David, because I have the same name, but am not related to him but sure knew of him.My class of 1971 is from University City where I grew up and played a lot of gym and street hockey with friends. Another connection I have is with Dawg Dad who worked with my best friend, Stan, who unfortunately passed away a very few short years before the Blues won the Cup. I honored him while he was very sick by sending him a personal hand drawn card with a picture of a "Stanley" Cup , so he won one before the team. As a largely anonymous board, it is sad to think of those older posters who may not have gotten the thrill of a lifetime in 2019 like us fortunate ones.We used to have a poster from University City who might have known me but his identity did not get revealed so I'm not sure. We have a vast array of real people here , so a good life to you all, and may we witness another Stanley Cup while our memories are intact. Looking forward to the PTS. Thank You, Blueski, who I believe has not posted here yet.

I used to work for the Postal Service, started when i was 24. I had a lot of life in me that "conflicted" with my work schedule. My shift started at midnight. One of the old salts there, after several months of employment, told me "u clean up pretty good, but some days when u straggle in here, u look like roadkill". I took it constructively since he was probably right. Added the IL as I am on the Atlantic side of the Mississippi.

I was 25 at the time and worked at a bar and grill in South City at the time and had to open that Monday. First thing I always did was turn on the stereo behind the bar to K-SHE. The news broke as I was sweeping the bar. I was in shock and devastated at the news. Of course back then it was much more difficult to contact my buddies who I went up there with, but we did manage to all connect at some point. A terrible loss of an incredible musician who beat drugs and alcohol and was just hitting his stride.

Cool story.

Also hailing from the Metro East, I am now going to refer to it as the Atlantic side of the Mississippi. ;)

As for me, nobody could possibly outmatch my creativity regarding screen names. I’m a fan of St. Louis area sports teams and I currently reside in Minnesota…

The St. Louis Cardinals won the 1964 National League pennant through a dramatic late-season surge, capitalizing on the Philadelphia Phillies' historic collapse. On September 20, the Phillies led the NL by 6.5 games with 12 games remaining, while the Cardinals were tied with the Cincinnati Reds for second place. The Cardinals, who had been 11 games back on August 23, went 8-2 in their final 10 games, including a crucial three-game sweep of the Phillies from September 29 to October 1, where they outscored Philadelphia 17-7.

Key performances included Bob Gibson starting four of the last 10 games, pitching 35 innings with a 2.31 ERA, and earning three wins. The acquisition of Lou Brock earlier in the season added speed and offensive spark, with Brock hitting .348 in the final stretch. Meanwhile, the Phillies lost 10 straight games, including the sweep by St. Louis, due to injuries to key players like Frank Thomas and over-reliance on fatigued pitchers Jim Bunning and Chris Short, who lost all six starts on short rest.

On the final day, October 4, the Cardinals clinched the pennant with an 11-5 victory over the New York Mets, finishing 93-69, one game ahead of the Phillies and Reds, who both ended at 92-70. The Cardinals’ strong finish, driven by Gibson’s pitching and timely hitting from players like Ken Boyer and Bill White, combined with Philadelphia’s collapse, secured their first pennant since 1946.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964_St._ ... als_season)[](https://thisgreatgame.com/1964-baseball-history/)[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964_Phil ... ies_season)

8-2 in their last 10. I was at one of the 2, the last weekend Friday night Bob Gibson-Al Jackson matchup which the Mets won 1-0. Glued to radio rest of the weekend.

In addition to Brock the Cards solidified their bullpen mid-summer adding Bob Humphreys and Barney Schultz, who was lights out with 14 saves down the stretch. Without those moves they don't win.

At that time I had never seen a hockey game, never played hockey in any format. Growing up it was baseball, baseball, baseball, football in winter.

It was their last World Series at Sportman's Park.
We moved to St. Louis in January of '65 when the Arch was a puzzling set of curved legs stretching up to nowhere as we drove through downtown for the first time. I saw a game at Sportsman's Park That Summer. Bob Uecker took a foul tip off his thumb and had to leave the game. Grand and Dodier...

My original screen name here was beanman34. When we set up our first ever email addresses I was in my first career as a banker and had the role of Controller. Since I “counted the beans” for the bank my wife assigned me beanman34. “34” was my age at the time. I liked the sound of it and it stuck. Even had some people use it as a nickname for me from time to time. My screen name changed a year ago when the post dispatch locked me out due to inactivity for a few months and I couldn’t reactivate the old one. so I kept beanman but just changed the 34 to 2024 which is the year I changed it. Overall nothing deep but original tied to my first career and age at the time.
