Eric Clapton was the headliner. Also on the bill with Clapton and SRV were Robert Cray, Buddy Guy and Jimmie Vaughan. The 2nd show was on Sunday night, August 26th. In the early morning hours of Monday, August 27th, the helicopter SRV and others were in went down in the hills of Wisconsin. My screenname is in honor of Stevie and the year he died.
That was right before my Senior year of high school started. I was crushed, I can say it's the first time I remember crying over the loss of someone famous. Beat heroin and die in a crash, such a waste. Thumbs up to you sir.
I think it was Denis Leary had a bit, he was talking about how life is unfair and one of the examples he used was Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead and yet Jon Bon Jovi walks the earth.
OoooOoo, you hit one of my pet peeves… I hate Bon Scrotum with a passion, for so many reasons. Lil turd actually thought he was a metalhead back in the day.
I could not agree with you more. That band is like a horrific stomache flu plus food poising with the body expelling nutrition and waste out of all orrifices.

Saw Metallica in a bar in 1984. No glam, just thrash Cliff was amazing.

Yeah, if I could go back in time and see bands that I missed in my lifetime...
SRV
Triumph
Motorhead
John Lee Hooker

And so glad that Dave was kicked outta Metallica, cuz lots more music to enjoy with 2 bands, tho I lost interest in Metallica once Jason left. Cliff was a great music writer.

Another fortunate concert. Saw Ozzy with Randy just before he passed.... honestly guys, I am not a curse!

Hazelwood72. (and others) ; When you start the "True Blues" video, it starts with the great Harry Caray (my favorite announcer before Dan Kelly came along) announcing a Bob Gibson home run in the World Series vs Boston ..before the video goes on to show the old Arena on Oakland Ave and Blues highlights for their 1st 20 years. Neat that 2 of you have the VHS tape. I have a copy too, plus phonograph records from the '68 and '81 Blues seasons.

Funny you should mention the band leader, Russ David, because I have the same name, but am not related to him but sure knew of him.My class of 1971 is from University City where I grew up and played a lot of gym and street hockey with friends. Another connection I have is with Dawg Dad who worked with my best friend, Stan, who unfortunately passed away a very few short years before the Blues won the Cup. I honored him while he was very sick by sending him a personal hand drawn card with a picture of a "Stanley" Cup , so he won one before the team. As a largely anonymous board, it is sad to think of those older posters who may not have gotten the thrill of a lifetime in 2019 like us fortunate ones.We used to have a poster from University City who might have known me but his identity did not get revealed so I'm not sure. We have a vast array of real people here , so a good life to you all, and may we witness another Stanley Cup while our memories are intact. Looking forward to the PTS. Thank You, Blueski, who I believe has not posted here yet.

I used to work for the Postal Service, started when i was 24. I had a lot of life in me that "conflicted" with my work schedule. My shift started at midnight. One of the old salts there, after several months of employment, told me "u clean up pretty good, but some days when u straggle in here, u look like roadkill". I took it constructively since he was probably right. Added the IL as I am on the Atlantic side of the Mississippi.

I was 25 at the time and worked at a bar and grill in South City at the time and had to open that Monday. First thing I always did was turn on the stereo behind the bar to K-SHE. The news broke as I was sweeping the bar. I was in shock and devastated at the news. Of course back then it was much more difficult to contact my buddies who I went up there with, but we did manage to all connect at some point. A terrible loss of an incredible musician who beat drugs and alcohol and was just hitting his stride.

Cool story.

Also hailing from the Metro East, I am now going to refer to it as the Atlantic side of the Mississippi. ;)

As for me, nobody could possibly outmatch my creativity regarding screen names. I’m a fan of St. Louis area sports teams and I currently reside in Minnesota…

My screen name is based on the 1964 Cardinals.
