A trade for a forward is interesting. That's a rough contract to take on, though. Price is fine, term is scary. Would be a good fit on the roster for sure.

Someone remind me again. I know if another team claims him, that team pays his salary. If unclaimed, what happens salary wise for the Blues? Is the last year of his contract voided or does he get sent to the AHL, paid the same, but it doesn't count against the cap?

Hmmm. He has a no-trade clause. Signed $8.5M until 2030. He's 32, but he would definitely change the team's identity.
With how the Rangers deal, maybe they'll give us picks as well.
Man I wish that contract was a little better, that is a player I'd love to have.

Depends.
If unclaimed we would still be on the hook for the whole thing. Unless we have it worked out for a mutual contract termination like we did with Saad.

Army just said Mailloux will play and the Blues may not want to lose Tucker or Kessel thru waivers so this was obvious move

Fowler Parayko
Broberg Faulk
Tucker Mailloux/Kessel

for now

Doesn't necessarily mean something else is Brewing IMO.

I think with acquiring Mailloux Leddy has probably been told we are going with youth and he likely won't be a starter

Fowler/Parayko
Broberg/Faulk
Tucker/Mailloux

However you would think we would certainly be looking to use the cap space if he is gone.

Man I get the reasoning and each of those bottom 3 guys does deserve a fair shot. But collectively, that's a rough 5-7 D. Lot of potential though!

I would call it more "unproven" than rough. Could be very very good IMO.

Isn't Nick Perbix still unsigned? Given inevitable injuries still probably need another nhl dman. Edit, nevermind. Missed Nashville signing.

If Leddy clears he can be insurance in AHL I think this is where the Blues want to be. Tucker looked pretty good to me vs the Jets and they are apparently going with Mailloux or at least its his job to lose.
I have ZERO issue with the Top 4, strong. They just need Tucker and Mailloux to be able to handle 3rd pair minutes and continue to grow

The Joseph/Texier spot on the 3rd line is more glaring to me than the 5-7 d spots right now. Unless they give it to Dvorsky or Stenberg, etc Id like to see Texier dealt and another forward signed

Agreed, he was solid when healthy.

That assumes he will go to the AHL. Many veterans essentially refuse and terminate their own contract for a shot elsewhere. Basically what happened with Saad

Isn't waiving someone the first step in buying them out?

Not in this case evidently, standard waivers vs unconditional.
