The thinking being Kyrou would have brought an NHL ready dman so it is a bit of a disingenuous point you are making. I did not necessarily want to trade Kyrou but I'd have been a lot more content with let's say Kyrou for Dobson than Bolduc for LM.

He scored 19 goals with much less opportunity. He played 12 minutes. He threw over 100 hits. Guys don’t love playing against him already

Only a loud minority wanted to trade Kyrou and it wouldn’t have been for a prospect/picks if we did.
We had about 75 threads (I exaggerate but not by much) started on him hopefully being traded. It was more than a loud minority.

Only played 7 games for the Canadiens this season and was caved in defensively. He’s far from a sure bet IMO. I just absolutely hate it. I know he’s a RD and that’s a more valuable position than a winger but that doesn’t make up for the gap in value IMO. They were taken in the same draft - Bolduc was taken 14 spots higher and he’s shown he should’ve gone higher to date.

And then add in the off ice baggage/PR issues they’ll now have to deal with and…yuck. I just absolutely hate it on first reaction.
Bolduc is far from an established NHL player, he was absolutely terrible to start the year and healthy scratched. Which version of him is the real Bolduc? Playoff and early season Bolduc or the 40 game stretch he looked great?

There had to be a reason he was still getting 3rd line to sometimes 4th line ice time.

I get you not liking the trade because of the off ice issues but you can't say he looked terrible in the 7 games he played and ignore Bolduc's playoffs and start of the year.
It’s fair to say Bolduc was shaky to start the season and wasn’t very good in his first playoff series but he’s proven a lot more than Mailloux to date, that’s for sure! I just value Bolduc quite a bit more than Mailloux as of now. Maybe Mailloux will break out but I just hate it from a value standpoint.

The hockey guy was talking about this a few minutes ago. The gist of it was Mallioux is talented but his defense is an “adventure.” I just don’t understand this one. We gave a lot, and this guy is far from a known quantity. I understand us having to give to get and I understand defense is worth more then wingers, but we didn’t get value here and we are assuming the biggest risk, not a fan of this move. We shouldn’t have done any move at all in my opinion.

It isn't. Many were ready to ship him off yesterday, and have been for years.

I'm not a huge fan of losing Bolduc, but you have to give to get and that was Montreal's price. It wasn't Kyrou.

If that's MTL's price, you say thanks but no thanks in my opinion. There was no need to trade Bolduc and LM isn't a guy who projects to move the needle next year. I truly hope you are pulling this back out two years from now Jack and shoving it in my face. Truly I do...

While there is a always a crazy contingent, I think a lot of people just saw Kyrou as a piece that had value and other teams would give value in return for. If anything, it is a compliment to Kyrou in a way. The Blues have a glut of wingers as we all have said, so trading a guy like Kyrou for a true organizational weakness was logical if the return was a true piece that could step into a gap.

Pierre, is your considerable optimism (in the face of much forum pessimism) based on actually having seen the kid play? If yes what is it about his game that leaves you feeling so positive? Thanks
Yes have seen him play and was high on him his draft year. Good offensive dman, could be great in a few years. He hits, he has a cannon of a shot. There is a lot to like in regards to what he brings. He has the tools, the Blues will be able to develop him along. He's proven he can play in the NHL and be productive, now he comes to a much more sound team....although Montreal is really close to being there as well but i feel like the Blues have the guys that will be able to help him along, Fowler, Parayko etc. I expect him to be in the opening night lineup come October.

Great point Jack. There sho 'nuff is a bunch of whining on here about Boulduc being shipped out for a RD all of us draftniks were drooling for just a week ago, due to the known organizational need. DA jumped the ramp up process to the bigs by 2-3 years with picking up LM. Another poster mentioned (dont remember who) if LM wouldn't have done his bad deeds, he would have been selected way before #31. Give to get. Shipping out Boilduc stings, but really, a big young RD on the verge (most say) of being an NHLer qualifies, on some level, as a prudent option to take. After all, we still have one Zack left.

The problem is there are very few RHD out on the market, or even really available. At some point it had to be addressed and at that point we would likely hate what the trade package was then.

It may or may not be a good trade, but I'd rather take the gamble now when he is relatively young, can learn from some really good vets, and we have plenty of prospects, including our top prospect, who can take Bolduc spot.

I mean before the trade, Kessel or Leddy is likely our 3rd pairing RHDman. That's not good.

dhsux wrote: 01 Jul 2025 12:18 pm I don't like the present imbalance of this trade regarding the level of certainty between the players.

I consider Zach as highly certain to have a robust career and granted I know little of Mailloux but that's the point.

If Mailloux is a top 4 guy I like this trade even though I think so highly of Bolduc.

I'm just sitting here in neutral right now and I don't particularly like neutral.

Really hope you're right Doug.
IMO that's exactly where you should be, neutral.
You have company anyway.

Bolduc needs to be a top 6 without replacements, IF Mailloux becomes a top 4 in my judgment.

It doesn't matter as much if Bolduc scores 30 elsewhere while in a higher minute role as long as the Blues
have a player doing it and they can replace Bolduc position in St. Louis.
Currently a 33 y/o Faulk and a 32 y/o Parayko man the RD.

The general thought on the other boards is Blues got the short end of the stick on this trade. Maillouix is described as the guy who leaves his man wide open in the crease to be the third guy against the wall fighting for a puck. Another person quoted that he is a force on defense for 90% of the game but then is the one who leaves the blue line unattended and gives up the game winning breakaway.

I would rather have Bolduc and Tucker than a guy with low hockey IQ.

That’s not a measure and you know it. Guys don’t even know/care who he is at that point.

Might turn out to be productive but that’s not proof
