The book is excellent. The protagonist, Ryland Grace, is on a mission in space and suffering from amnesia. He eventually realizes that the mission was to find out why the Earth's sun is dimming. He meets an alien - unlike any alien I've ever encountered in any book or film - and comes to realize they're on similar quests and so begin a cooperative effort.
