The NHL Draft report cards are in...
The Blues get a "B-"
https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/456 ... icks-value
B- doesn't sound that bad, but the distirbing aspect of this is that there were many teams that did better. In the NHL, if you are not moving forward, you are moving backward.
St Louis's primary issue was that we didn't have many picks to begin with.

Fine with the grade based on the limited criteria they used, but a complete picture would have taken into consideration picking up a top 4 defenseman with the Blues 2nd rounder and a top 6 winger with the third rounder.

In fairness, the grade also did not reflect some ugly truth.
The Blue highest need remains the 2C and RHD. That this need exists after drafting a 2C and an RHD in the first round in 2023, and 2024 is troubling.

We didn't have many picks because we are stuck with Holloway and Broberg, right?

Another B- from another source. And like the other, many teams fared better.

Ugly Truth? League-wide how many 2024 draft picks are filling a 2C or top 4 RHD role currently?
You said that you feared DA would trade valuable prospects for aging vets. He didn't do that. In fact he keeps saying that trade targets will be in the 20-25 age range. I just wish one time you could admit that your fears aren't always very accurate. But hey, you do you.

Harshness warning, for all you Karen's.
This is beyond stupid, FAR beyond stupid. Another thread today CORRECTLY states the Blues draft in reality is Carbonneau, Broberg, and Holloway, plus the 5th and 6th guys. Check back in 4-5 years and see which teams fared better.

Re: The NHL Draft report cards are in...
They got a real 1st round talent in Carbonneau and they had previously converted their 2d and 3d rounders into roster impact. That's a really good draft result.
fwiw "Grades" mean nothing the day after the draft. what matters is whether they got an NHL top six scoring RW in Carbonneau or not. If they did they did very well for the 19th pick and I obviously love the pick.

And an "A"
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/252 ... raft-class
I agree with this grade. Finding high-impact players is the goal, not dressing a Barbie doll. Carbonneau has a good chance at being that, and that the Blues got him at 19 is very good.

I love Broberg and Holloway, and I'm glad we have them.82birds wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 12:26 pmb-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 12:15 pm We didn't have many picks because we are stuck with Holloway and Broberg, right?![]()

Stealing great players from other team's benches is great---UNTIL YOU ASK YOURSELF THE QUESTION... How is that other team's bench players are better than anyone on my active roster?
Re: The NHL Draft report cards are in...
Those are Blues needs now, but they are drafting for what their needs will be in 4-5 years from now.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 12:14 pm In fairness, the grade also did not reflect some ugly truth.

Thank you Debbie Downer. I guess that was something that has never been thought of before.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 12:14 pm In fairness, the grade also did not reflect some ugly truth.

Why is it that there are quite a few centers drafted since 2023 that are already starting in the NHL?rezero wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 12:40 pmThose are Blues needs now, but they are drafting for what their needs will be in 4-5 years from now.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 12:14 pm In fairness, the grade also did not reflect some ugly truth.
