I’m hoping for Reschny. He’s a top-10 talent in this draft IMO but seems to be projected more in the 14-20 range.

Would really like Bear as well. Or Brzustewicz or Hensler or…well I’ve posted my full list so yeah, that’s who I want in the order I want them.

Some mock drafts do have him sitting there at 19. Question for you, MN, & others. How does he compare to Dvorsky. Can you compare /contrast him for us?

Reschny doesn’t share a lot of the same characteristics as Dvorsky but they’re both very skilled. Pretty different players actually. I see Reschny as being more stylistically similar to someone like Schwartz, Jarvis or even Thomas…I mean, he’s unlikely to reach Thomas levels but then again, nobody really thought Thomas would reach that level either when we drafted him 20th overall years ago.

But sticking to Dvorsky, they’re probably about equal in skill but Dvorsky has the way better shot and obviously the size advantage too. Dvorsky has also shown more physicality at lower levels but they’re both very very competitive. May even have to give Reschny the edge in competitiveness. Where Reschny shines is his hockey sense paired with his skills and work ethic. He’s a very very smart player. He’ll score a fair number of goals but he’s the type that’ll be racking up assists as he sees the ice so well. So pairing him with a shoot first type like Dvorsky or Snuggy would probably be a good fit actually.

He’s a bit better skater than Dvorsky but I wouldn’t call it a plus trait. He’s heading to North Dakota in the fall and I expect him to be one of the best freshman in the country. He’d be a steal at 19 IMO.

Mrsic has a very nice shot though. Like very nice. Can pick corners very well. But he’s small and plays small. Very much a perimeter player. He’s a very good Jr player but when I look at players that I think will make for good NHLers, I look for translatable skills. I see a lot of holes in Mrsic’s game and he plays a very Jr game. He’s going to have to really make some adjustments to become a solid pro.

That said, he was an excellent grab in the 4th round. He clearly has skill and that shot. He has another year of Jrs so hoping he can fill out his body some and work on rounding out his game before he turns pro in 2026-27.

This is a good capsule of Mrsic. Hugely talented offensive player with space. No defensive game to speak of yet. But he is more like Perron style feisty at least. Will be good to see him rebound from his season ending by getting kicked in the face not long after he scored in Game 5 in the first round series

What about Isaac Howard ? He is a left wing which we are stocked with at this point. But how do you rate him against our potential takes and would it be worth it to use this pick or some other capital to try and get his rights ( assuming he assents to coming here of course)?

Talented player but he beats to his own drum. Had no interest in signing a contract unless he’s pretty much guaranteed an NHL spot. And considering all the LWs we have…I just don’t see how we can do that. Or that he’s earned that quite frankly. Pretty talented but far from elite. Lots of holes in his game. He’s the type that’s valuable when he’s scoring but pretty much useless when he’s not. A guy that really needs to be a top-6 winger or he’s not really helping your team.

I’d look into it but tbh, he’s not a great fit IMO. I’d rather either just draft an 18 yr old with the 19th overall or use it on something other than a flawed, undersized, prima donna LW prospect like Howard.

But if he could be had for a relatively cheap price, then maybe. And TB doesn’t have a lot of leverage as everyone knows Howard isn’t signing with them anymore. So with decreased leverage, maybe Howard can be had for a modest price.

Yeah, I was glad to see Mrsic on the development camp roster as that tells me he’s likely ok after the concussion from getting kicked in the face to end his season.

And yeah, you bring up probably the main reason why I’d see him having a hard time playing his game in the pros. He tends to need a lot of time and space to make plays and get his shot off. It’s a heck of a shot and it’s currently beating Jr goalies at a decent distance but there’s maybe 5-10 players in the world that can consistently beat NHL caliber goalies from distance like that and I don’t see him as being one of them. He won’t be able to be nearly as successful playing that much of a perimeter game in the AHL or NHL.

But the skill and shot are obvious so there’s something to work with there for sure. Would be a boon if he could make the adjustments needed this season and then we’ll see if we actually have something when he turns pro.

it's the skill & hockey IQ, but like I said elsewhere he has this lust for scoring you can't teach. Perron had it. To the extent he is ever trying to do too much, his eyes are on the prize – scoring a goal
