Draft: 20-Something Area Picks

Post by John Cocktoastin »

Now that the Blues have settled in the 20-something range for the draft (and hopefully falling lower), it's assuring to know the success we've had in that range. Props to the Blues scouting department for this impressive run.

Take a look at the players that fell that far, and the value the Blues got at that 20-ish position. Hey, even Bokk turned into Faulk!

I forgot Bergie too. Say what you want, but Bergie loved being a Blue.

2006 Entry Draft

Round 1 Num 25 Patrik Berglund

Took him right before Detroit. I believe we traded up didn't we?

I know I am getting away from the theme of this post, but trade the pick for one next year or the year after.

Oshie at 24, Berglund at 25 and Perron at 26 too. And Cole at 18.

The Blues have been knocking it out of the park in the mid to late 1st for quite a while.

That said, this is a pretty shallow draft so the task is pretty hard this year.

Would have to believe Thompson/Perron and Thomas are near the top of the list of best draft selections at X pick since the turn of the century.

Just looked it up before submitting and jeez pick #26 seems to be a spot to find some rough gems in need of a little polish. Perron and Thompson but also Shea Theodore and Jake Oettinger.

This might be a year to trade down, especially if nobody they really like happens to fall. I am curious who they're targeting in that likely range.

What a bust. The only thing I remember about that kid was he insisted on wearing white skates.

1- I absolutely do not agree with trading down. This run has been fun, but we're still a far cry from being a legit Cup Contender. I'd rather we "reach" for somebody we really like(like we did with Neighbours) than accumulate more picks. Our contracts slots are already full, and we still have prospects coming. We don't need more prospects(quantity), we need "better" prospects(quality). It's just not worth the risk of losing the guy you really want.

2- We won't know who they're "targeting" until a week after the Draft. Our Draft rankings are the equivalent of nuclear codes with this Front Office.
Top Secret doesn't even begin to cover it.

Not sure who the Blues have stacked at that spot. But I like Braeden Cootes in that range. Relentless, great passing skills, high-end skating and edge work, and can score.

By some miracle Bear falls there due to injury, you snap him up.
