ROR was arrested when playing for Buffalo and faced several criminal charges.bluetunehead wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 23:38 pmYeah I’m pretty sure they like Thompsonskilles wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 23:35 pmI don't know I think that is probably their favorite trade ever.kimzey59 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 23:32 pmArmy's number probably got blocked after the ROR trade.
He also cried publicly and said he lost his love for the game lol.
Played like trash
Buffalo did VERY well

Except that's the one that started their present curse of supplying core players to Cup winners.skilles wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 23:35 pmI don't know I think that is probably their favorite trade ever.kimzey59 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 23:32 pmArmy's number probably got blocked after the ROR trade.

They do that trade again in hindsight. Re: Peterka to Mammoth
I could see why Kesselring would bring a very good return just not from Buffalo. Could end up looking a lot better once they trade a LD.

ya i dont get it, trade the one young star that busted through last yr for scraps. they may never make the playoffs again. thats no joke.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 23:09 pm That’s it? That can’t be it.
I feel so so bad for Sabres fans. Just cr@pped on constantly and basically acting as a farm team for the rest of the NHL.

without a doubt, that trade is not even in the same ball park as this one, this one is just trash. TT is at least a stud. gotta think hes on his way out very soon.theograce wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 00:07 amThey do that trade again in hindsight. Never bring up Buffalo again when saying that drafting well with top picks doesn't always equal success. They do this to themselves every year...

This is a good hockey trade. People just want to hate on Buffalo. They got a top 4 RHD that they desperately need and a middle six winger that brings needed physicality to their lineup. There is definitely another big move for them to make also.

Re: Peterka to Mammoth
overpay but I'd like Kesselring here that's for sure
Re: Peterka to Mammoth
Yup. Buffalo got bigger and harder to play against on paper. They were getting a lot of heat for not trading some of their young talent.billybaseball wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 08:17 am This is a good hockey trade. People just want to hate on Buffalo. I like this deal for them on paper
Re: Peterka to Mammoth
I agree. definitely not horrible on the Buffalo end. probably asked for Hayton, but ended up with two very serviceable players; plugged two holes. and not done.theograce wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 09:44 amYup. Re: Peterka to Mammoth
Buffalo got fleeced, but this is what happens when you are constantly drafting in the top 10 and don't have success. You have to move on from the age group consolidation. There's only 2 ways that model swings when it's as extreme as what is going on in buffalo. It's either you have what Buffalo has going on, where players don't want to extend there and they haven't figured out how to win so they are constantly trading at a loss. Or you get the Blackhawks of the 2010s where your core is absolutely ridiculous and you have a dynasty style team. There really is no in between when you get to this level of ineptitude.
That being said, the ROR trade wasn't the catalyst for their demise, it was the last kick in the groin region that showed that Buffalo had no direction. I can't remember the player but he was on the caps, about 3 years ago Chiklits did a podcast with him and he talked about how the Sabres had a good locker room culture going, and they felt like they were about to turn the corner. The front office then in his words "started playing fantasy nhl video game hockey" and started trading away core pieces. On paper they got more talented, but the locker room culture went to shiz.
We all know ROR was the real captain of the 2019 stanley cup blues. The players even acknowledged it. He was the catalyst for the cup. When those types of players are saying something is wrong in your organization, it's time to listen. No different than Schenn. Guys are salt of the earth and will go above and beyond for their teammates. Buffalo is a dumpster fire. We should be grateful that even tho we are in this rebuilding era and just got a sniff of the playoffs, we have great carry over leadership from ROR's tenure here as a blue and Schenn is doing the right thing. If we do move on from Schenn this year, next year, or he retires a blue, we better hope we have the next guy that will grind it out as hard as those guys have.
No cup without ROR.

Sounds like there was also a package in place from MN that centered on Rossi. Buffalo elected the UT option instead. Personally, I’d have taken Rossi in a heartbeat but maybe his RFA status factored in.

Sabres don’t need a 5’8-5’9 forward who sucks in the circles.Backesdraft wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 12:15 pm Sounds like there was also a package in place from MN that centered on Rossi.
