Hi JDW! You are one of those good baseball men that I was talking about. And in answer to your question: yes, to all those things you mentioned. A good example of a DH that wasn't that complete of a ball player was Big Papi for Boston. He almost single-handedly destroyed the Redbirds in what was it '04? And now is a HOFer. He's an icon in Boston and by all accounts genuinely a terrific guy. But if you'll remember, in that series, everything he hit was a frozen rope. Even the foul balls. It just proves the point that not everyone that is using (allegedly) is a jag. And sure, there is a place for the DH. In my opinion that is the American League. Lastly, let me just add that at least Big Mac had the class to retire leaving $10 million per on the table. I would have been spending every day in the trainer's room and dragging my hurting (donkey) out there hitting home runs on one leg until I collected every last dollar I had on my contract. Oh well, there I go rambling again, like the narrator in "The Big Lebowski". You got any of that good sasparilla?

Our payroll is 19th in the MLB, so we are outperforming management’s investment. “See what we have” = F A F O.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑18 Jun 2025 08:55 am 7 games vs central division. 3 Reds and 5 Cubs. I would expect a boost to that number.
By comparison prior to the universal schedule and universal DH Matheny during his tenure averages 42,000 per game 2nd in MLB. Currently 30,000 per game 13th in MLB.

Is that any different than guys who can field but lack the skill of hitting? Not dismissing your question but baseball is populated with many players who only have one or two baseball skills. I prefer the hitting skill over all others.JDW wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 07:02 amDo you not like it because it allows more opportunity for guys that can basically only hit but lack the other baseball skills like being good at fielding and base running?Honky Tonk Man wrote: ↑18 Jun 2025 11:06 amI don't like it but it isn't a show stopperdesertrat23 wrote: ↑18 Jun 2025 10:58 amOf course it is. I don’t think the DH has anything to do with it. I mean was attendance ever an issue for the AL all the years that just they had it?
This 'Moran' never shuts up about the DH...doesn't watch any games and posts all the [fork]ing time...he can't be that stupid.

I see what it is. I'm looking at active and you are looking at total which included injured. Cardinals have the lowest injured payroll in MLB.Midrange Jay wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 11:24 amI show 19 for 2025. Boston is 13.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 11:19 amBoth links show the same thing. What's interesting comparing attendance numbers is 2017 - Matheny's final full season - we were drawing 42K per game and were 14th in total payroll and 16th in active payroll.

It helps when you consistently win in the playoffs, and don’t cut 20% of the payrollScotchMIrish wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 12:18 pmI see what it is. Good team. Not on my list of favorite 80s teams or the best. The Tigers of the early 80s as well as the Yankees, Phillies, or Orioles. Just my preference.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 12:22 pmI'm curious. Sure, but to get him to play at Busch in the Series, he had to put on the lobster claw. And Scotch Irish, of course I was insinuating that he was a PED user, Very obvious in my mind. On the other hand, he was not a surly jerk. Anybody else concerned how Pete Crowe-Armstrong is playing like an MVP this year? Kind of reminds me of how Matt Carpenter looked when you couldn't get him out for about 1/2 a season.
