Actual attendance Saturday and Sunday probably around 15-20k due to oppressive heat
Why they play Saturday home games during the day makes no sense
MLB attendance figures are what Consumer Reports would describe, like a new car's MSRP, as "polite fiction".
Today's "official attendance" measures how many tickets were distributed: i.e., purchased by fans and bots from Take It, Basturd!; SeatGeek; and StubHub, regardless of the turnstile count (butts in seats) or how many purchased tickets the corporate scalpers had to eat....and keep box office walk-up fans from buying without completely bogus markups.

7 games vs central division. 3 Reds and 5 Cubs. I would expect a boost to that number.
By comparison prior to the universal schedule and universal DH Matheny during his tenure averages 42,000 per game 2nd in MLB. Currently 30,000 per game 13th in MLB.
Yes I’d expect big crowds.
Get rid of the DH and significantly reduce the number of AL opponents. I'll bet attendance would improve.
I’ll take that bet. While we had to wait for the NL to catch up to the rest of the world we were entertained by numerous .028 hitting pitchers. So fun. Inter league play is a no brainer. You get to see every player in baseball play your team. So please keep living in the exciting world of players who shouldn’t get to bat and playing the same team dozens of times instead of playing everyone in the league.

Friday 35 K
Saturday 27 K
Sunday 27 K
Average 30K
4 sellouts vs the Cubs should boost that average but it a division rival like the Reds can't get a bump in attendance it looks like that's were we are. Not a good sign.
I don't know where you live, but the temperatures were 95+ today and yesterday with extremely high humidity in St. Louis. I think that easily explains the drop between Friday and the two weekend days. It was almost too hot to be in my swimming pool today...

I agree with you regarding day games on Saturday in the summer But it was hot in the summer during Matheny's last full season and they averaged 42,000. There is something else going on.
they sold 42K a game, not averaged 42k fans in the seats, this is a complete fabrication

Now they are selling 30K a game. Not averaging 30K a game. Why is that?

MLB averages 76 plate appearances a game. Without the DH 4 of those were pitchers. Pinch hitters. Double switches.
The NL caved and replicated amateur baseball. I'm sure that's not the only reason but a lot of people feel like I do.

I'm in Missouri in the 1960's. It has been hot every summer since I've been living here. Attendance has gone from 42K in Matheny's last full season to 30K. Something has happened.

Yeah, the team had a losing season and a meh season in back to back years, and the team added only one free agent in the off season on the heels of publicly claiming a "reset." People know what's going on, well, except for you apparently.
Hi Scotch Irish. Interesting thread. You know that I despise the universal DH. But I'm afraid that MLB ramrodded it in and it will never go away. I am surprised, however, that so many good baseball men on this particular thread have weighed in and noted that THEY don't like the DH in the NL either. And as for the earlier reply by another good baseball man that he was tired of watching games with a batter coming up every 9th spot in the order that was hitting .028, maybe they should have worked on it. And at least THEY could bunt!
Usually. Besides, I loved the strategy. But like you and I have been reminded many times, boycotting the game we love is not a hill that many of us good Cardinal fans choose to die on.

Not boycotting. Just not interesting to watch. Haven't watched the NBA in decades. A computer has determined 3pt shots are the key to winning. Boring. I've seen basketball and that's not it. Same with baseball.

I don’t think the DH has anything to do with it. I mean was attendance ever an issue for the AL all the years that just they had it?
The DH has nothing to do with it. The same people who say they won’t go because of the DH are the ones who also say they won’t go because downtown is a post-apocalyptic hellscape.
This 'Moran' never shuts up about the DH...doesn't watch any games and posts all the [fork]ing time...he can't be that stupid.
The DH is a travesty
Of course it is. But it’s not going away, and to not go to games because it exists seems silly.
I don't like it but it isn't a show stopper
Do you not like it because it allows more opportunity for guys that can basically only hit but lack the other baseball skills like being good at fielding and base running?

Main thing I guess is I am somewhat of a Traditionalist. I enjoyed the strategy more pinch hitters sacrifices small ball
