Maybe we are doing a "who's on first here"?
Re: Offer Sheet and Joel Hofer
The picks are from 2026. Oilers have their 2nd, but not their 1st. Teams can start talking to RFAs on the night of June 30, but nothing can be signed until free agency officially begins at 12:01 pm (ET) on July 1.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 14:37 pmdidn't we lose this years picks for the signings last offseason?dhsux wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 14:36 pmThey need the picks now to do this.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 14:34 pmit's next years pick(s), iircHarry S Deals wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 14:34 pm The Oilers don't have a 1st or 2nd rnd pick this year can they do this or is it next year's picks

One thing is evident: the Edmonton Oilers need an upgrade in net. General manager Stan Bowman and head coach Kris Knoblauch spoke to the media on Friday, June 20, discussing their priorities heading into the summer. During their press conference, Bowman stated: “The defence will have the least number of changes. I like how they played. The forwards and goalies are where we will have some changes.” It’s great to see that he recognizes what needs to be done in goal; now it’s up to him to do it. The free agent goalie class is thin, so a trade is one option. However, the Oilers could opt to go a different route.

Oilers Can Enact Revenge on the Blues
While this may sound petty, the Oilers have an opportunity to enact revenge on St. Louis from last offseason. The Blues put Edmonton in a tricky spot when they gave Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg offer sheets. The Oilers were strapped against the cap, so they chose not to match either of them. They received a second and a third-round pick as compensation. Now, they have a chance to return the favour while filling a need in the process. You shouldn’t do business just to get back at the people who wronged you, but in this case, it makes sense.
It’s a win-win situation for Edmonton. They either fill the need and get the player, or force St. Louis against the salary cap and not lose any assets. This situation is worth a shot, and if it doesn’t work, they can always explore the trade market.

Could you imagine not signing Bouchard to "enact revenge" and replacing him with a goaler?
That would be an incredibly dumb usage of their very limited cap space.

The issue for the oilers is not revenge in my mind so much as they need at least a 1b goalie. But yes cap is an issue.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 15:32 pmYeah they won't have the room.TBone wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 07:49 am Oilers Should Offer Sheet Blues’ Goaltender Joel Hofer

If I’m Hofer, I gladly accept a raise to play in Edm. Why wouldn’t he

Re: Offer Sheet and Joel Hofer
I’m sure he would but they’ll have to find someone to dump Evander Kane on if they want the money to work. They have less than 12M in cap space with Bouchard and 3 more forwards still needed.
They probably should do that anyway, but making room enough for a Hofer offer the Blues couldn’t just match will be difficult without cap dumps.

Re: Offer Sheet and Joel Hofer
and as it sits right now, only 6 roster players signed for 26/27.bluetunehead wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 20:23 pmI’m sure he would but they’ll have to find someone to dump Evander Kane on if they want the money to work. They have less than 12M in cap space with Bouchard and 3 more forwards still needed.
That's a lot of players to replace, including potentially McDavid.
Re: Offer Sheet and Joel Hofer
Even if the Blues match it’s not ideal for either side. I’m sure Hofer is getting sick of second fiddle at this point. I’m sure he wants an opportunity as much or more than the money.bluetunehead wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 20:23 pmI’m sure he would but they’ll have to find someone to dump Evander Kane on if they want the money to work. ‘ You shouldn’t do business just to get back at the people who wronged you, but in this case, it makes sense.’
I get so sick of this narrative.
The Blues didn’t “wrong” anybody…they played by the rules, period. It’s Oiler’s management’s fault for letting them get to RFA status if they wanted to ensure they’d be resigned. That they didn’t have the cap space to match is…once again…noone’s fault but Oils management for not preparing for the day the players could sign elsewhere by their GM makin the necessary moves for them to have the space to sign them. What’s so hard to grasp about that?
Dont like the rule? Then vote to get rid of it. Otherwise S[top] T[hose] F[raudulent] U[tterances] and run your team better instead of looking for scapegoats.

On an unrelated note, I didn’t realize Hofer was listed at a 179 pounds.
Blues have some poles back there. Crazy
