You guys are idiots. You Harry High School types do not have a clue. Winn has been nursing a bad back and a bad hammy. 199/200 that’s a routine out. There’s no need to risk injury on that type of play on a day in mid-June.
In 1987, on a routine ground ball Jack Clark decided to go all out and ended up with a high ankle sprain that kept him out for the rest of season and a possible reason why they lost to the Twins. After the game Whitey said, “what the F was he thinking?”

Worth noting that Winn has busted down the line since taking that play off.Voldemort wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 08:20 amThis is yet another example of how clueless you are. The Cardinals organization has a history of telling certain players to tone down their hustle when the heat turns up in St. Louis and when they play several games in a row. Molina comes to mind but most likely there are others. It is smart to do so in obvious outs. Still, some want Winn to pull a muscle to get heat stroke.Melville wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 07:48 am During the broadcast yesterday, all 3 members of the broadcast team discussed and supported Winn jogging lazily to 1B during the prior game - something he has done repeatedly.
They quoted The Marmot as claiming Winn was merely following the orders of the coaching staff, essentially saying the staff wants him to jog to 1B (and take other plays off as well) because they rely on him so heavily.
According to the reporting, because he plays so many innings, because the season is long, because it is hot, because they want him to protect his lower body, he has been told to save his energy, and to "save his bullets" for when needed.
Two points.
It is disgusting that the broadcasters know full well this is complete nonsense and that Winn has been given no such instruction - and not only reported it but defended it as being smart and necessary.
Flat out telling the audience something they did not believe; something antithetical to how the game should be played.
Zero integrity.
Two, neither Marmol nor the staff have told Winn any such thing.
It is obvious The Marmot anticipated the question and rather than telling the truth ("Winn's lack of effort was not acceptable and we have talked about that"), he had devised a long, detailed, nonsensical story designed to protect his player from criticism.
Just the latest in an unending list of examples as to why the man should be fired.
So much for heat stroke.
Perhaps he realizes that 3 seconds of effort is not detrimental to his health - but 3 seconds of laziness will invite the ridicule and scorn it richly deserves.

Weird then that he broke into a full sprint AFTER the infielder bobbled the ball.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 08:37 amI don’t see it as preventing a heat injury. One sprint won’t trigger that. I’m more concerned in that heat with muscle pulls, and sudden sprint will do that.11WSChamps wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 08:35 am Ted Simmons was one of my favorite Cardinal players played a demanding position on astroturf and didn't run out every ball either and I know why.
It's a long season and the dog days are just starting. Donovan if folks didn't notice "trotted" down the line too as did others.
Some common sense please.
Re: Winn jogging: "following orders". Marmol incompetent.
Then why did he sprint AFTER the infielder bobbled the play?
Running 90 feet over 3 seconds is dangerous to his health, but running 45 feet for 1.5 seconds is not?
The "cover story" is complete nonsense.
Winn blew it and The Marmot didn't have the integrity to say so.
Neither did the broadcasters.

I'll give you credit, nobody doubles down on stupid like you do

Donovan, Scott, Walker, Conteras and several other Cardinals do not routinely dog it on ground balls (also known as "saving their bullets').CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 08:39 amDonovan is wearing a medical appliance on his toe, doesn’t have Winn’s speed as a key aspect of his game and his ball had no chance.11WSChamps wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 08:35 am Ted Simmons was one of my favorite Cardinal players played a demanding position on astroturf and didn't run out every ball either and I know why.

They run hard every play.
23 year "old' Winn does not.
Apparently, they are immune to heat stroke, muscle pulls, the demands of a long season, and all the other nonsensical defenses of The Marmot and broadcast team which floated in this thread.
Re: Winn jogging: "following orders". Marmol incompetent.
If Winn has been ordered to jog to 1b as the broadcast team stated Marmol claimed, why did he suddenly sprint when the infielder bobbled the game?riff raff wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 12:20 pmMelville wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 12:16 pmThen why did he sprint AFTER the infielder bobbled the play?

We both know why - though you are not honest enough to admit it.
Winn's own behavior proves he recognized his lazy blunder.
And later, the manager and broadcast team covered for him.
Re: Winn jogging: "following orders". Marmol incompetent.
My only beef with that play is he took his eye off the ball as he was trotting down the line. It's possible if he'd been watching the play instead of having his head down, he could have reacted sooner by getting up to full speed quicker and possibly beating it out.
Re: Winn jogging: "following orders". Marmol incompetent.
Good point.
I might pull a muscle in a finger, of have an attack of heat stroke, by typing too much.
It is a long season.
Need to pace myself in order to remain healthy enough to post.
Perhaps I should limit myself to 1.5 seconds of effort at any given time, rather than a full 3.0.

Re: Winn jogging: "following orders". Marmol incompetent.
Those on here comparing Yadi & Simmons to Winn crack me up. They were catchers spending 2-3 hours a day in a crouch while wearing gear. Their knees were shot. One is a HOF and the other soon will be. Winn has done nothing close to earning star treatment. He needs to gain some real accolades first
Re: Winn jogging: "following orders". Marmol incompetent.
The play is done and over with.
Winn's reaction in the moment prove he realized his lazy blunder.
The bigger issue is that both The Marmot and the broadcast team made a disingenuous effort to cover for him after the fact.
Winn was more honest than they were.

Walker doesn't play every day. Contreras walks back and forth to his position, I've seen Donovan go less than sprint on routine ground balls and as for Scott his speed and availability is what keeps him here.
Try again.
And FYI I never said it was right or wrong I said it was common sense to understand why it sometimes happens.

Coach my (donkey). You never coached a day in your life.
batter didn't bunt on the first pitch, then easily went to third on the next bunted pitch without a play. That's the way it's supposed to work. Have a nice day and tell those kids to get off your lawn.![]()
Morons like you believe because you have an opinion that it can't be wrong.
Stick to your knee jerk reactions and leave the thinking to the adults.
