I love Mile Shildt
Went directly at Robert’s when Tatis got hit. Right or wrong he always has his players back to a fault (Matt Carpenter). More managers should be like that. He never would have thrown or allowed WC to be thrown under the bus like he was a couple of years ago.

When was WillyCon thrown under a bus? How long was he on the IL?

Re: I love Mile Shildt
I’m still bitter about when he was first acquired and they decided he couldn’t catch (as good as Yadi I guess). It was just covering for a bunch of whiney pitchers in my opinion. If you remember they put him in the bench to learn. Granted he is no Yadi but they knew that. Pitching staff was spoiled and frankly had not learned to call or help call their own game.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 07:59 amWhen was WillyCon thrown under a bus? Re: I love Mile Shildt
You're actually right about this though... bizarre how anyone would dispute WC being thrown under the bus. It was a humiliating public critique of their brand new FA signing... clown move by a clown manager (who granted has since improved).
Back to your OP though... interesting that as much as he sticks up for his players that he was like #2 on the list of managers the players would least want to play for on that informal poll from last week.
Re: I love Mile Shildt
I didn’t see that poll. Did it include players that played for him? To some extent I understand that given what appears to be a conservative old school nature. He is not Mr personality or Mr excitement. But I didn’t like my boss but still worked for him and Schildt’s record is pretty good.3dender wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 08:17 amYou're actually right about this though... bizarre how anyone would dispute WC being thrown under the bus. Oli does share the blame for the WC incident but let’s not let Mo off the hook either. It was classless.

WC was absolutely thrown under the bus by Oli and passive-aggressively by Waino as well. It was a despicable era for the Cards.

He didn't get time with pitchers to learn their pitches and repitoire due to many being in the WBC
He wasn't thrown under the bus. They gave him some more time to work and learn with the pitchers.

Not true at all...it was due to the [fork]ing garbage WBC and pitchers not getting time with WillyCon...3dender wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 08:17 amYou're actually right about this though... bizarre how anyone would dispute WC being thrown under the bus. Man, CT can't stop grinding the non-existent axe.
It's so pathetic, it's funny ...and why I love this place!

WillyCon was so distraught over this that he stays with the team and takes charge as a leader...poor Willy

Re: I love Mile Shildt
The fact that WC handled it about as gracefully as humanly possible doesn't mean it wasn't a super [shirt]ty way to treat your brand new FA acquisition.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 08:37 amNot true at all...it was due to the [fork]ing garbage WBC and pitchers not getting time with WillyCon...3dender wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 08:17 amYou're actually right about this though... bizarre how anyone would dispute WC being thrown under the bus. The WBC was an excuse that management used when it was very clear there were 2-3 pitchers who had complained about him to coaches, which instead of shutting down like responsible adults in the room they decided to entertain.

WillyCon was calling for pitches the pitchers didn't throw...

The WBC wasn't an excuse...it actually happened. And it shouldn't. It's (bleep)

Re: I love Mile Shildt
I'm not saying WC was doing great, or even that the pitchers' concerns were unjustified. It was the publicly humiliating way Marmol hung him out to dry that was totally classless by an organization that has marketed itself for decades as the classiest in the league.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 08:46 amYour claim of super [shirt]ty just isn't true...3dender wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 08:44 amThe fact that WC handled it about as gracefully as humanly possible doesn't mean it wasn't a super [shirt]ty way to treat your brand new FA acquisition.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 08:37 amNot true at all...it was due to the [fork]ing garbage WBC and pitchers not getting time with WillyCon...3dender wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 08:17 amYou're actually right about this though... bizarre how anyone would dispute WC being thrown under the bus. It absolutely could have been handled internally, and it would have by a better manager.
