Not going to happen - he would take away valuable playing time from Bedard and Nazar - that era has passed...

It’s been brought up.

My guess is he signs a 1 year incentive based 35+ contract. Unlikely to be us though. But I’d kick the tires. Try to get a sense of where he’s at with his summer skates. Can he still play? Is he over the long covid stuff that hampered him the last couple seasons he played? I wouldn’t pay much for him but a low AAV with bonuses to achieve if he actually produces, I’d be down for that. But there’s undoubtedly going to be a number of teams that offer a similar contract structure so I doubt he’d choose the Blues among his likely options.

I don't see how he lands on a competitive team. He looked mediocre last time he played.

Because he was battling long covid. If he can show he’s over that, teams would be interested.

Yes, if the price is right. 2/3/4C. I'd want him in camp on a tryout, he'd have to prove he can play.

That won’t cut it IMO. Someone’s going to offer him more than a PTO and a maybe.

Sure, then pass. IF he can still play and keep up with NHL skaters he might want to hook on with a team where he can help them win playoff rounds. Corey Perry who wins faceoffs, maybe not quite so inclined to drop the gloves. Could he put up 40 pts, backfill Thomas and Schenn, and coax production out of the young 3rd line wingers? If he can skate and has shaken the bug sure he could.

The alternative I have in mind is a 3C with some offensive juice leaning to playmaking assists who is tough, wins faceoffs, and kills penalties. You know, those $7 million guys.

He's washed up and the chickenhawk stench is just too much.

Interesting take.

He doesn't need the money.....and he'd likely turn down some teams for a myriad of reasons even if they offered a contract. It's possible he could get a better deal off a PTO than on the market, right?

He might be wide open to a PTO mighten he?

Lol the Covid thing was just an excuse to not play anymore but still get paid. There has been no other athlete out with “long covid” flu bug.

Is part of the Covid recovery going to India for an extended period for “spiritual healing”?

He played through his contract, spent zero time on LTIR and didn’t have a contract the 2 years he didn’t play so no, it wasn’t just an excuse to get paid…as he wasn’t getting paid. You can think it was made up but he wasn’t getting paid, that’s for sure.

Why would he take a PTO? Some team will offer him a 35+ contract. Something line $775k-$1M guaranteed but then with incentives to earn more, let’s say up to $4M total. I bet it’ll take something like that to sign him.

No, I’m not necessarily advocating for the Blues to be the team that signs him.

Not entirely true. He missed 20-21 before coming back for 21-22 and 22-23.

But yeah, he's not faking it. The guy has CIRS, which is a legitimate albeit rare issue that isn't exclusively related to Covid. It's just one cause.

Also he's not the only one. Brandon Sutter had to retire for the same reasons.

Please don't take this as a personal attack. The dude has 3 rings, all as Captain. He captained a Cup team where Patrick Sharp was working Duncan Keith's wife like a full time job. Conn Smythe, Selke winner, and still has something to prove. IF IT LOOKS GOOD AND THE DOCS ARE CONVINCED, why wouldn't you? I'd want somebody with that kind of fire, and that short of a contract. Rumor mill has Colorado, Winnipeg, and Tampa as most likely. I don't get Colorado. If bouncing back from respiratory issues, why sign in the thin air of Denver?

This is an excellent point, overlooked until you posted it.
