My son is getting me a Pit Boss pellet grill/smoker for Father’s Day.
A while back there was a thread about these smokers and several people recommended brands/types of pellets.
Does anybody recommend a brand of pellet that works well and is unlikely to clog the feeding auger?
Thanks.

I have a Pit Boss and have used a couple different brands with no issues. The first bag was the Pit Boss brand. The 2nd bag I got at Ace Hardware and was called Smokey Woods. No issues with either one. I think any reputable brand would yield good results.Bomber1 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2025 16:37 pm My son is getting me a Pit Boss pellet grill/smoker for Father’s Day.

I too got a Pit Boss last week (1100 series) and I picked up a bag of the Bear Mountain pellets at Lowes. Had no problems with them. My first cook on it was chicken wings where I smoked them for about 60 minutes and the last 15 minutes I finished them by opening the fire plate to get them crispy. They may have been some of the best wings I've ever had. Second day I smoked some ribs on it and they too turned out great.

One other note. I saw where you can do a biscuit test to see where the hottest part of the smoker is by cooking some biscuits on it and seeing which ones get brown first. I didn't do that but I could definitely tell that the right side by the smoke vent was the hottest part. Would be interested to see if others with Pitt Boss see the same.

When you did your wings what temp for the first 60 minutes?
