I'm not ready to freak out regarding Helsley just yet, but this is why you don't go extending relievers long term into their 30s.

Helsley has 13 saves of his 18 opportunities. Only 4 N.L closers have more saves.
Of the closers in baseball available , he still will have suitors at the deadline.

He is also tied for the national league lead in blown saves he may have suitors but they wont be offering much for him

My suggestion?
Package Helsley and Noot for real lead-off hitter.
There are at least two playoff teams who need a left fielder and a closer.
Name them.

How many teams have more than one "real lead off hitter". Why would they be hunting for a rental and willing to give up their "real lead off hitter".

Cards didn’t trade Helsley or Fedde this off-season as they never listened for offers on them. From what I read numerous GM’s expressed frustrations over that and were surprised. However Mo made his priorities clear that Arenado was his primary focus.

You think a gm didn't listen to offers that's his job. They at least LISTEN or entertain every offer just to see if it's an offer they can't refuse in all likelihood

Yes I believe MO hung up on everyone who tried to call and talk.
Also....I called his office number and his recording said....”If you’re calling about Nolan Arenado please leave a message after the beep”!
