I'm not ready to freak out regarding Helsley just yet, but this is why you don't go extending relievers long term into their 30s.

Of the closers in baseball available , he still will have suitors at the deadline.
He is also tied for the national league lead in blown saves he may have suitors but they wont be offering much for him
I think you are dead wrong. He still has great value.

My suggestion?
Package Helsley and Noot for real lead-off hitter.
There are at least two playoff teams who need a left fielder and a closer.
Name them.
How many teams have more than one "real lead off hitter". Why would they be hunting for a rental and willing to give up their "real lead off hitter".

What was the offer they should have taken?
Don’t be obtuse, you know there were trades to be made if they tried.
Based on the Williams trade, I don’t believe the offers were good.

   you read that all these gms were supposedly mad man y'all say anything when things that you want to happen don't and vice versa lol

You think a gm didn't listen to offers that's his job. They at least LISTEN or entertain every offer just to see if it's an offer they can't refuse in all likelihood

That’s why a lot of “us” wanted to trade him even for lower level guys.

LOL
Yes I believe MO hung up on everyone who tried to call and talk.
Also....I called his office number and his recording said....”If you’re calling about Nolan Arenado please leave a message after the beep”!

Mo never commits fully. A proper commit would have been finding an offer Arenado would accept and selling high on Fedde and Helsley. They will have to eat most of Arenado's salary now, they got nothing for Fedde and Helsley didnt improve his value. worst thing about it is the team did it all just to likely miss the playoffs again.

In the could have been worse category, at least they traded him before the deadline. Thankful for that.

A basic case of Mo being Mo? Very possible.

Or, a situation where Dewitt II or Dewitt III ordered him not to sell off Helsley (especially) or Fedde? After all, w/o Helsley's mlb-leading 2024 effort, StL would have arguably been a sub-.500 team. Fans appreciated that notion, and if he were traded asap, how might it affect fan perceptions, i.e., ticket sales, for 25?

That’s a valid point. Sell the popular closer prior to a reset season might tank the gates.
