Loved his work with The Byrds. His song 8 Miles High, co-authored with Crosby and McGuinn, is frequently cited as the first psychedelic rock song and was also frequently banned from the radio for its alleged encouragement of drug use. Talented guy from Tipton Missouri.

Roger McGuinn will be at The Sheldon October 1, as we're talking about the Byrds. Several months ago he was diagnosed with Parkinson's, so it must be mild enough as yet to still play that 12 string.

Those are great songs.

Yes, he was a tremendous songwriter but once he was no longer with the Byrds he did not get the attention he should have. He received a lot of critical praise for his solo work, but not a lot of record sales.

I saw McGuinn at the Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville, IL last year and he put on a very good show, played acoustic and electric well, and his voice was fine. He also told a lot of interesting stories about his life as a professional musician.
