Re: What are you watching
I am so hooked on Mob Land. Sunday's can't come fast enough each week. I'm really starting to hate the platforms that drop an episode a week like its NBC in 1994.
Mob Land is over the top, it's insane, it has a helping of Goodfellas and Scarface, the acting is great (I love Tom Hardy's role, I love Pierce Brosnan's role, I really love Helen Mirrens sleazy role, I love all of the lesser players, rivals, thugs etc).
My only teeny tiny nitpick is the rat and the connection to the rat is way too obvious not to have been sniffed out by someone yet. I think the family is getting close to figuring it out after last weeks episode and I feel like the rat (trying not to spoil anything here other than there is a rat) is about to meet a really, really bad ending.
That and I have to turn the subtitles on bc of some of the thick accents. Thank goodness for subtitles.

Stumbled across a 2014 British comedy series called 'Detectorists' about the lives of two friends involved in the hobby of metal detecting. Series was written and directed by Mackenzie Crook (He played Gareth (Dwight's character) in the British version of The Office) who also stars along with Toby Jones. Series won the 2015 BAFTA for best comedy. Lighthearted with subtle British humor - a good change of pace from the usual dystopian fare.
In 2019, The Guardian ranked Detectorists at number 38 in their list of "The 100 best TV shows of the 21st century"
Show is free to watch on Prime.

The fiancé and I had no idea it was a weekly show when we first started watching. Finished episode six... and then nothingGeorge Zipp wrote: ↑15 May 2025 13:47 pmI am so hooked on Mob Land. Its a sublime dead-pan black comedy. A tender look at a daft little community. Highly recommended.todd-parker wrote: ↑15 May 2025 14:21 pm Stumbled across a 2014 British comedy series called 'Detectorists' about the lives of two friends involved in the hobby of metal detecting. Re: What are you watching
I’ve been watching the first season of Apple’s Invasion for two months. It’s been a chore.
Can someone give me a reason for continuing watching it? Please?

I stumbled across an old comedic production originally made in the UK and then there was a later American version as well. Both productions are excellent. It’s called Getting On and it’s about nursing on a woman’s hospital ward. It is a black comedy that skewers, egotistical doctors and exposes romantic foils of nurses on the ward. I watched the British version on Prime and can’t remember where I saw the American version.
Right this moment I’m finishing up “line of duty “the British police show that gets an 8.7 on Internet movie database. That is a super high rating. It is very good. It’s been out for several years and it was on my radar, I just never got around to watching it until now.

The actress who plays Becky, Andy's teacher girlfriend, is Rachael Stirling. Rachael's mother IRL is famed actress Dianna Rigg who also plays her mother in the show.MikoTython wrote: ↑03 Jun 2025 00:33 amSeason one of Detectorists, at least, is on YoutubeGelatinousEndive wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 21:13 pmDetectorists is so much fun!MikoTython wrote: ↑16 May 2025 15:16 pmIts a sublime dead-pan black comedy.
