What are you watching
This board is on life support. Too bad because most of the people who post here have good takes and aren't here to troll, spam or ruin convos like other places. I'll try a what are you watching:
*Last of Us: Not normally a big zombie apocalypse type of viewer. My daughter wanted to rewatch S1 before S2 dropped so I'm watching with her. I really dig it. It really captures my attention. Some of the guest star arcs (Nic Offerman, Melanie Lewyensky) have been great. I still have 3-4 episodes to finish S1 but I suspect with our weather forecast I'll plow thru it this weekend.
*The Pitt: I like medical dramas. Sue me. I went in thinking it was going to be ER, the Sequel, because of Noah Wylie. There is certainly a component, but it was an easy watch. Got thru all 15 episodes in a week. Like the premise, good acting, a bit over the top on the heart tugging but enjoyed it. Read that Michael Crichton's widow is suing Max and Noah Wylie because it is too much like ER
*The Studio: Seth Rogan. Heard him on Stern and decided to give it a look. Watched E1. Very unlikely to go back. There was a funny cameo by Scorsese, but the premise is so over the top stupid, the storyline of goofy Seth Rogan taking over a major studio beyond ridiculous that it was nothing that interests me
*Hacks-this is me being nice to my wife. I've liked the series but it's getting kind of monotonous the same thing nothing ever changes. They hate each other, they make up, then hate each other again, then make up, and then they hate each other. S4 picks up where S3 ended, with the hate.
Going to look at the new Jon Hamm show that he was plugging on SNL and I'm going to start Mobland soon.
What say you.

Catching up on White Lotus, now in S2. Well-written show, exploring the dark side of the upper bourgeoisie. I like it.
Do get viewing ideas from this forum. So, keep dem coming.
A lot of times, I find my self somewhat more critical than the average bear. For example, after a season or so of Tedd Lasso, I'd had my fill. Once Slippin' Jimmy started really breaking bad, after he'd dispensed (or pushed) 'Chuck' to his doom, I lost interest.
Some of you keep up w/ damm near all the shows, so its a good look-out for me.

Re: What are you watching
You should go back to the last season of BCS. You can skip everything between chucks death and the start of that season. IMHO that was one of the best seasons of a show ever with several holy hell moments. Obviously a chance they have been spoiled for you in which case, NM.MikoTython wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 09:37 am Catching up on White Lotus, now in S2. Re: What are you watching
I'm just finishing up re-watching The Queen's Gambit. One of the best series I've seen since Breaking Bad. The central character, Beth Harmon, is a chess savant, socially immature, semi-addicted to tranquilizers after required dosing at her orphanage, prone to binge drinking - thanks to her adoptive mother introducing her to Gibsons, Martinis and wine. Great sound track, great period costumes from the 50's and 60's. And brilliantly portrayed by the beautiful Anya Taylor-Joy.
On Netflix.

Here's some not-so-well-known shows I've enjoyed over the past few years. All very enjoyable, witty, well-written.

Battle Creek (featuring the Allstate Mayhem Guy)

A Very Secret Service (French)

Wild District (Colombian)

Re: What are you watching
I've watched this twice and totally agree with your write up. I really enjoyed it and she was great in the role. As were all of the surrounding characters.edwin drood wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 18:23 pm I'm just finishing up re-watching The Queen's Gambit. One of the best series I've seen since Breaking Bad. I've seen more than one rumor floating around they are going to do another season. I'll certainly watch but this seems like one of those shows that isn't necessarily ripe for more. Tython mentioned Ted Lasso when he was talking about shows that didn't thrill him. I liked the show but my God, the idea of another season of that show, especially after the way the wrapped it up after S3 makes me cringe. It looks like a pure money grab (good for them, get it while you can but still).
I'm not sure I want to see her in a depressed mid life chess crisis being all drunk and pilled. I suppose first we have to see if the rumors are true.

Re: What are you watching
I have a love-hate relationship to this show. I quite liked the first couple of episodes, but its brazen derivativeness is wearing on me. Some of the cameos are funny, but boy, we've seen that trick a million zillion times. Which only makes one consider how familiar ALL of this is.George Zipp wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 08:12 am *The Studio: Seth Rogan. Heard him on Stern and decided to give it a look. Watched E1. Actually, the one thing about it that is a tiny bit fresh IMO is that the Rogan character is not a complete Hollywood shitbag, so I don't mind him or the character. I also really love Chase Sui Wonders as his assistant. But it's searching for a tone. It wants to be a ruthless, cynical satire in the style of Armando Iannucci in one scene, but then get misty-eyed about the magic of filmmaking in the next. Or, like in the awful third episode, go off on a whimsical Golden Age of Hollywood fantasy romp in the style of a forgettable Woody Allen piffle. It will have to pick a lane.
It seems like it might benefit from a binge-watch, so I might hit pause until it's all available.
Re: What are you watching
Just finished season 4 of Dexter. I don’t know what to make of it. I feel dirty for watching it.
I’m obviously not a voracious television show watcher.

Last of Us
Love on the Spectrum
(Soon) Andor
Recently watched Say Nothing on Hulu, a historical dramatization of The Troubles in Ireland. It was pretty well done and very informative. Recommend.
My family is VERY excited for "The Eternaut" releasing 4/30 on Netflix, a little known Argentinean production that is adapting a [fork]ing amazing Argentine scifi graphic novel about an alien invasion (only available in Spanish afaik). I'm terms of artistic reputation It's basically the "Watchmen" of Latin America.

Re: What are you watching
I powered thru the first four episodes of mobland this weekend. I’m hooked. I need the subtitles because of some of the thick accents. Standard mob waring family storyline with bonus psychotic Helen Miren. Sorry for the ever so slight spoil. Will take you five minutes to figure out without my comment.
Paramount is a once a week drop like others. First world problems but I like the entire season to drop. Realize I can’t do anything about it. Still.

Re: What are you watching
Good discussion all. First, go watch the last season of BCS. It was one of the best seasons of TV I have ever watched. George Zipp is correct. I enjoyed the entire series, and think it is a top-20 show all-time for me. BB is my favorite, so call me a bit bias. ha
I enjoy the Studio, but I like Seth Rogen more than most I think. Preacher was good, crazy, but good. I do agree though, they need to pick a lane, the episodes are a little all over the place.
Last Of Us episode 2 was like watching peak GOT. It was amazing.
I finally finished Andor over the weekend since season 2 is coming out. What a fantastic show. The best of the Star Wars galaxy. It has everything. The funeral scene in the last episode was magical, it really was. I can't recommend it enough if you haven't watched it.
Reacher is pure good easy fun. People come at him, he beats them up, repeat.
I enjoyed season 3 of The White Lotus, I thought it was a lot of fun.
The Queen's Gambit was great. You can watch her in The Gorge or The Menu. I would recommend The Menu way more.
I would recommend Fallout, pretty good show. I didn't play the game so you don't need to have played it to enjoy the show.
I still don't understand what they are going to do with a Ted Lasso season 4, and I really hope they don't ruin it. I thought they wrapped it up perfect, so when the news broke I wasn't too happy.
Two shows on AppleTV you have to watch are Severance & Shrinking. Both terrific television.
Daredevil: Born Again season 1 was pretty great. Sure, would have loved more Daredevil but they are building a story. Charlie Cox is great as Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin is about as perfect casting as you can get. Jon Bernthal as The Punisher & Wilson Bethel as Bullseye are also great.

Re: What are you watching
Started watching 'Government Cheese' on Apple TV - a quirky dramedy set in the 1960s about an ex-convict who tries to reintegrate with his family while trying to market a self-sharpening power drill that he invented. Kind of a palate cleanser after the heaviness of the current slate of apocalyptic shows that are in my viewing rotation. Episodes are about 30 minutes a piece (1st four are available now) and stars David Oyelowo who is a phenomenal actor.

Re: What are you watching
I watched episode 1 of season 2 of the Rehearsal. It is, as advertised, so awkward and cringeworthy, and exactly what we have come to expect from Nathan Fielder. I laughed out loud a few times, and I can't wait to see the absurd levels he takes this season, and project, to.
Re: What are you watching
IF you watched and loved season one of Silo (because season two scuked IMO); you may want to give "Paradise" season one a chance. I liked it and similar.
