Contreras back in the lineup, Arenado and Burleson out
Contreras at cleanup. Gorman gets the start at 3B.
Re: Contreras back in the lineup, Arenado and Burleson out
With Contreras back, Burly is back to competing with Walker and Gorman for PT.

Good for Contreras and Gorman- too bad for Arenado and Burleson. Morton is pitching and it will probably be a great day to pad stats.
Re: Contreras back in the lineup, Arenado and Burleson out
Burleson may be in tough spot. Walker has been hot the past 17 games ..hitting over .350 9 for 24 so Oli wants to keep playing him .
Herrera has DH locked down . Only catching rarely as Pozo gives Pages a day rest when Libby is pitching .
So despite a good batting avg. Burley has no path to be a regular in lineup as I see it .
Think a team wanting a left bat who wishes a full time guy may seek to trade for Burly at deadline. Would Cards trade him ? I think possibly yes

where ya gonna play him?
Re: Contreras back in the lineup, Arenado and Burleson out
Couple of minor points on Walker: That's over the last eight games in which he has an AB, not last 17, or since May 14; Walker's average is .375, not .360.ramfandan wrote: ↑26 May 2025 11:25 am Burleson may be in tough spot. Also, zero walks, and 29.2% strikeout rate.

So Burly's defense at 1B is ok, as he does well on short hops it appears so far, but on some of the hard hit balls he doesn't even get the glove down on them as they scoot thru below him for hits.
I'm sure to most those look like sure hits, and understandable as you don't even see Burly react down. Contreras reacts much quicker to hard hit balls off the bat than Burly does from what I've seen, which is SSS, but I've replayed quite a few with Burly at 1B and he just doesn't react. With him I'd try and have him position with his glove much lower to start with like a lot of fielders do. It's possible in that position Burly is just very slow with his first step in his footwork. Idk.
Re: Contreras back in the lineup, Arenado and Burleson out
unless you are prepared to play burleson in the outfield walker isn't blocking him --- at this point contreras/herrera are blocking burly and arenado is blocking gorman.... burly is gonna play 1b or dh and gorman 2b or 3b --- gorman has a slightly easier path to playing time as donovan is very capable in the outfield. when all of them are hitting, if that ever happens you have a very nice dilemma.okcardfan wrote: ↑26 May 2025 12:47 pmCouple of minor points on Walker: That's over the last eight games in which he has an AB, not last 17, or since May 14; Walker's average is .375, not .360.ramfandan wrote: ↑26 May 2025 11:25 am Burleson may be in tough spot. Herrera's days as a catcher are numbered and mercifully coming to an end.

Let's hope Gorman's wild throw was an aberration and not an indication of how bad he could be at 3rd base.
After watching Rolen and NADO, two of the all time great defensive 3rd basemen it could be really sad watching Gorman make 30 errors a season if he's NADO's replacement (and by all counts, that's Mo's plan.......maybe not Bloom?).
