I watched baseball for decades and never seen that. It's not as if the runners were going to advance. How did his falling into the net "cheat" the D-Backs of anything?

As an umpire at the High School level, I know that to be called "Catch and Carry" on the Arenado play.

It commonly comes up on fields where the boundary is imaginary down the lines. Its exactly the same ruling. If you catch and then run past the boundary, then runners on base get to move up 1. Good thing Carrol didn't move the runners up before that happened.
