Broberg and Holloway are not even the strongest players on Edmonton. They don't even need them to advance to the 3rd round.
Meanwhile, the Blues wouldn't have even made .500 in the regular season without Broberg and Holloway.
Why is Edmonton so much better stocked with talent than the Blues (Their young bench players are our stars)? Who is to blame for that?

Berglund went with Sobotka, Tage Thompson, a first and a second for ROR. That trade worked out for both teams.George Zipp wrote: ↑15 May 2025 13:40 pmBergy went to Buffalo where as far as we know he did not father triplets for any member of the Sabres before retiring a couple of years later.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑15 May 2025 13:21 pm Buffalo is always the team people use to make a case that drafting high doesn't always work out but that's ignoring all of the bonehead moves their gm pulls off every single year to defeat themselves. Didn't they take Berglund and Lethera off the Blues...?
Lehtera and 7KG of pure Siniloa cartel cocaine and several draft picks were traded to the Flyers for a Bryce Harper rookie card, a ticket stub from the Soviet Series in the late 80s and a video of Ron Hextall attacking Chris Chelios in the corner in game six of a Habs/Flyers series. It was a solid move for both sides.
Lehtera went with two first-rounders for Schenn.

This is incredible.
Starting in 2009, Edmonton went 7 straight years with a losing record.
They drafted Draisaitl in 2014, McDavid in 2015.
So 6-7 years of brutal, bottom of the league hockey before finally striking generational talent.
In fact, between 2009 and drafting McDavid, they’ve had 7 top 10 picks, including 4 first overall.
Since 2009 and today, they’ve had 10 top 10 picks and 4 first overall.
………and they still haven’t won a [redacted] thing.
Meanwhile, your boy Armstrong has won a cup before Edmontons 16 year rebuild and may be pretty close to creating a new championship roster before Edmonton brings it home.
Edmonton hasn’t even proven yet they’re a better team than last year and you’re championing their 16-year path to success already?
You sir are the dumbest crayon in the dumpster.

Edmonton tanked for years to acquire that talent. Blues flipped it quick without full blown tanking.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑15 May 2025 13:02 pmYou are missing my point. I'll explain another way.

Get back to me when the Oilers actually win a Cup with this core. In a 9 year span they drafted 1st 4x, and then 3rd, 4th and 7th. One year where they were decent and drafted 22nd.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑15 May 2025 13:02 pmYou are missing my point. I'll explain another way.

2010: 1st overall Taylor Hall
2011: 1st overall Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
2012: 1st overall Nail Yakupov
2013: 7th overall Darnell Nurse
2014: 3rd overall Leon Draisaitl
2015: 1st overall Connor McDavid
2016: 4th overall Jesse Puljujarvi
2017: 22nd overall Kailer Yamamoto
2018: 10th overall Evan Bouchard
They squandered a lot of these picks. I actually find it a disgrace how they’ve built around McDavid and Draisaitl. Those two are that good but the Oil management has wasitef a majority of their primes but not building out the supporting cast and leaving defense and goaltending in particular too weak.
I don’t think they’ll be able to beat Florida but even if they do win the Cup, they’d then tie the Blues core that had 1 4th overall pick on it with 1 Cup apiece.
The Blues are now building a new core. Clearly in a different way than the Oilers did and clearly in a different way than you’d prefer. But that’s how the Blues do it. More of a balanced/death by 1000 cuts approach more than trying to tank for a couple superstars.

Agree with the the gist of criticism of squandering picks (Yakupov!).
But by no means would I say failure to win the cup is the only measure of organizational success. Final round down 3-0, but came back to 3-3-3 only to lose by a goal on the road in game 7 with Draisitl and McDavid playing win significant injuries. That's about as close to winning as it comes.
Re: We just advanced to Rd3 WITHOUT Broberg and Holloway
I can't believe anyone would think the Oil are a better run team than the Blues. Edmonton has been a trainwreck for at least a decade. Underachieving mismanaged dumpster fire. They suck. They aren't beating the Panthers.
I hope Vancouver and Ottawa win the cup before the Oil. The Oil really don't deserve one. McDavid deserves a Cup. Draisaitl deserves a Cup but the Edmonton Oilers as a whole don't deserve a cup. Their management blows.

The OP is so bent by how Army made a great move to snag Holloway and Broberg from Edmonton, that he or she has spent an entire season on a Blues board attempting to criticize Army and the Blues. That makes a bit of a case for how good a move Army did make doesn't it?

My stance is that it serves very little purpose to make the playoffs if you can't win it all. It only spoils draft position. I'm not for losing games on purpose, but I don't agree with Army's approach of "staying competitive by trading away draft choices". Others disagreed saying that 2025 is 2019 all over again. Others said that getting in the playoffs is so wonderful, not matter how much we get blown out.
Today we heard from Army himself that he sees no repeat of 2019. Essentially, the Blues will be participating in the playoffs just to say that we did.
I can't take it anymore. I'm so sick of Army.
Further, it is impossible to have any sort of intelligent discussion on here.
Too many people here don't see things the way that I do, so I'll just hang with the people that do elsewhere.
Goodbye and go Blues
I may be back after Army is gone, but I doubt it.
ASOGG checking out.
So I'm back on the ice, hitting Army's bad ideas without abandon.

You are such an attention whore you don't care how you get bent over, just so it happens as much as possible. You were so hard on the Dallas train (a team that didn't blow it up). Then when you got humiliated, you decided to jump on the Oilers bandwagon. NOPE. Here on BluesTalk, the firm belief is that Edmonton is winning DESPITE MCDAVID AND DRAISITL, NOT BECAUSE OF THEM. Just ask the poor, dumb clucks yourself.

There wasn't anyone else. Tucker, Leddy, and Suter would all have been on their offside which likely means they are having to clear the puck on their backhand.
