That is somewhat telling. With his mannerisms, you’d think he was left handed.

I am reading on cards talk and in other places that Gray’s velocity is down. That is a huge red flag for any team that might be looking to add starting pitching.

I doubt that is true but consider the source.

His velocity is down as much as JB Pritzker's weight is down. Up a pound on Monday and down a pound on Tuesday. We are talking about less than 1% fluctuations in velocity. Gray is a pitcher, not a thrower.

He is about as consistent as a starting pitcher can be in this era. He is an excellent mentor for the other pitchers. More like Carp than Waino in that regard as he does it silently and in the background. He doesn't have to be the center of attention and do goofy things to get attention.

He wants to stay in STL, he wants to compete, he wants to mentor and teach. Because of that, I want him here. Very similar to Willson. Plenty of other pieces to trade.

... The Cardinals are adding at the trading deadline not dumping vets for prospects. They will be making a run for the playoffs.

At this point I'm not sure what they will actually need. Thought it would be a reliever, but if these guys keep figuring it out and stay healthy, maybe not.

Would you add an SP? Or just give McGreevy a chance.

Plenty of time to see what happens and talk it out. But I'm really just enjoying this run and the season as a whole so far.

I don’t imagine them making any major additions, but a bat that hits LHP should be a priority. Someone like Amed Rosario seems like a fit.

It’s still in their better interests to trade off expiring contracts.

What is the current position of Cards Talk posters on trading Sonny Gray? I understand that he has a no-trade clause and that he did not express an interest in being traded in the off-season. He has expressed a desire to play close to his home in Tennessee. That would leave the Reds and the Braves as possibilities. I assume that a trade within the division to the Reds is off the table, so that leaves the Braves. They got off to a slow start. They have pitching injuries and rank in the middle of the pack in most pitching categories. #1- Would you entertain trading him to the Braves if he would waive his NTC? #2- If you would, who do the Braves have that you would be interested in? 21 of their top 30 prospects are pitchers.

Let's go back to step 1 . Gray said he would not waive his NTC. Shouldn't you just stop there?

I’m afraid that’s where it ends. Anything else is just speculation for fun. No real possibility, as with all the other NTC-guys. Still pretty solid though and glad he’s here. We’ve had worse the last several years.

My point is that it isn't exactly drivable. Neither city is. Especially not for a millionaire.

A flight from St Louis, Cincinnati, or Atlanta would be around 1 hr 10 min to Nashville. Given parking, early arrival, security, boarding, pick-up, etc., Atlanta's drive makes it the only city worth the hassle of playing 'close' to home. Plus Smyrna, where he's from, is 30 minutes south of Nashville, even closer to Atlanta.
