Always been in the "don't just give him away to put money in BDWjr's pocket" camp.
And I only deal him if the offer is overwhelming and NADO has asked to be traded.
(I'm NOT sold on Norman being the answer at 3rd base and the others like Donovan or JJ down the road really don't fit at 3rd base which needs to be a position for a power bat)
I agree on Gorman but Arenado isn’t a power bat anymore Donovan has two more doubles than Arenado and just 1 fewer homerun
Of course not but his is age related, when we first acquired him (2021-2023: 90 HR's/301 RBI's) he was indeed that 3rd base power bat.
Donovan isn't the right fit, neither is JJ.
Hopefully Bloom can find a power bat either at 3rd base or in RF.
In my reset, this off season, with new monies, we aquire either a - stud third baseman- stud outfielder, but with Scott and Herrera that might be priority three- and a LEAGUE level Ace.
That's what is need BDog, that true MOTO bat that plays 3rd base or in the OF (easier said than done, right?).
I fear BDWJr will continue his payroll cutting ways, will he go under $130M in 2026?
Could happen if he draws under 2.5M this season.
I think you worry to much about the money from Bill. He could very easy be going thru old age paranoid that dominates the thought process. You’ll see one day.
It’s not hard to find that bat. Either pay for it or trade for it. We will be setting pretty in both scenarios as that what a reset is for is to reestablish funding projects moving forward.

Not at all BDog because it's going to take BIG, BIG money to land that power bat ($35-40M AAV) and ACE ($35+M AAV) you say they need to add.
And it's EXTREMELY hard to find that bat and that ACE, especially w/o the MONEY.
Baltimore is desperate for pitching - last place in AL East even with all their young talent. Currently they are starting washed up Charlie Morton and has been Kyle Gibson.
Cards should offer them a package for Coby Mayo, 23 yr old RHH 3B with power.

This is a good thought. Exactly the kind of move in a reset. Nado is gone this year, or next.

The savings from Mik and Matz next year plus 5 M puts me in he game. And remember . We just need to add one this year and one next year. Monies are there especially if Bill adds to the pile.

He shaved $56+M off the 2024 payroll and spent....................$2M this season adding P. Maton!
This is why (and I'm not "worried") I always caveat w/"IF BDWJr gives Bloom the money".
I still want Arenado traded. Donovan, Saggese, Gorman, Weatherholt, maybe Herrera or even Walker are all 3B possibilities. And if none of those guys are looking like the answer by end of season there is plenty of money to spend with NA gone as well as Mikolas, Matz, Fedde, etc.

His contract is not that bad and he still makes contact drives in runs and plays good defense. Maybe it'll work out to have him around long enough to hand over 3B to Wetherholt (if that's where the Cardinals decide to play JJ). Towards the end perhaps Arenado sees more DH time.
If there's any legitimate complaint I think they should be open to dropping him to 6th in the lineup. Contreras 4 and Herrera 5 right now would be ideal. Not to mention Donovan has really cooled off since his hot start, with a .631 OPS last 14 days. You probably could get away with Contreras 3, Herrera 4, Donovan 5, and Arenado 6.
I mean Arenado is hitting cleanup and is 5th on the team in RBI. And he’s not far from being 6th behind Herrera who has missed most of the season and has 130 less PAs than Arenado. Arenado is NOT good at driving in runs. He wasn’t good last year, he isn’t good this year.
Also over his last 122 PA Arenado is hitting .229/.311/.376. That’s buoyed by his May (.324 avg .823 OPS). For most of April he was terrible hitting .181 over his last 19 games in April.
He should definitely be dropped in the lineup to 6th behind Contreras-Herrera 4th-5th.
If there’s a suitor, then move him immediately. Going into the season they needed him to play well in order to create a market. Now that he has played well, not great, some of you are falling into the trap of wanting to keep him. Nope, trade him. He’s not part of the future and they’re not competing for a WS ring this season

Agreed. Even if the team does make the playoffs I’m not convinced they’re that much better off with Arenado. Especially considering his propensity to choke.
It is not Arenado they should have traded. (or Contreras or Gray or Mikolas also with NTC)
If they traded any of those guys, they would have been doing it to save money, not to get back some great prospects to aid in a rebuild. They all had no trade clauses so it was going to be very difficult. Matz did not have a no trade clause but his value was also negligible so it would have been to save money, too.
They should have traded high on Helsley and Fedde. They had significant value.
I also would have traded high on Burleson. He had some value and this would have made more room for other prospects to play (Gorman, Saggese, Barrero, Baker, etc.) Trading Burleson would have accomplished the same thing as trading Arenado without tanking the 2025 season.
Fedde and Helsley's value hasn't changed much but the risk was that they would get injured and instantly lose all value. They are still healthy; however, they won't be traded unless the Cards fall out of contention and they are still healthy and they are playing well. Matz actually has a little value now. Same deal.
I'm not upset trades weren't made since any trade would have made the Cardinals worse in 2025 and I hate to see the team losing. Arenado, Gray, and Contreras are some of our best players. Fedde and Helsley are some of our best players.
Burleson has lost all of his value now. The risk was that he would be awful the first half of 2025 and he has been awful.
However, Burleson has also been blocking other people with his 311 game tryout. He's been hurting the team for too long and he has no tools. All by himself he's been 37 runs below average over his career so far. There is little reason to believe that would ever change though he may have a brief hot streak now and then. He should have been traded when he had value; now he should just sit on the bench so others can play.
Barrero has been 34.2 runs below average in 147 games but that is less frustrating for us since most of it was for another team. More upside.
Jordan Walker has been 27.2 runs below average but he's younger and has more upside. He simply needs to be sent to AAA to regroup
Gorman has been 14.2 runs below average in 339 games. Not quite as injurious to the team results; and again more upside.
Saggese is looking for a window to get his tryout soon.

Yes. Some people constantly chase the carrot around the track. Those are the people who want to keep Arenado.
